Any other laptops I should consider before they plummet in price in the January sales?  They are bound to fall aren't they?  Stands to reason!  40% discount perhaps?   :dunno:

I wouldn't bet on huge cuts, Clive, it depends how well Xmas has gone for retailers.

That's without the OS, though.  Seems the HDMI requirement pushes up the price quite a bit.

Clive don't worry about buying before the vat goes up as it will only make around £10 difference and i'm sure you can get more than that off in the sales.

Well that's what I think Cammy.  Trouble is that Simon's offering makes Lona's seem exceptionally good value!  It had a 17" screen, HDMI and Windows 7 all for £570.  The last Windows laptop I bought ran with Win NT and was £1000 of uselessness.  The Macs have been so much better but now seem more expensive than ever.

You should be able to get an offer similar to these in January if not before...

 Dell Laptop with Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T6600 (2.2GHz, 800MHz, 2MB) Windows 7 Pre 64 bit 3GB Ram, 250HDD £399

 or this...

Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop, Intel T4300 2.1GHz processor, 3GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium £348.99

I didn't check if they had HDMI or not but my Dell one does.

you pay for quality. The problem isn't the machine its the OS.....

I personally love Acers... though if you want HDMI it gets pricey... http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0248976588.1260660074@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfladejdiljlehcflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=106595&category_oid=-36730
