a while back when i needed to find out what motherboard i had iwas advised my someone (think it was simon) to use a program that built a profile of my computer(what motherboard, processor etc), i was just wondering if anyone knows of a similar program that could give me info about my dvd rw drive, as i don't know a thing about it!!!

The same program should do it, but you may need a cd or dvd in when you run it.
If you use Nero, not sure about some of the other burning programs, I think that there is a drive analysis bit built into it  :)

Yes, there is Belarc Advisor (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html), and also, if you need more detail, AIDA32 (http://www.aida32.hu/aida32-download.php), but get it while you can as it's being discontinued.   :(

discontinued - stopped permanently or temporarily; "discontinued models"; "a discontinued magazine"; "a discontinued conversation"  AIDA32 is being discontinued.  Clear enough?   ::)
