Title: Strictly Come Dancing
Post by: GillE on December 04, 2005, 01:45
There's been no mention of Strictly Come Dancing on this forum (or any of the others that I browse).  Does this mean that I'm a saddo because I find it the most entertaining TV programme of the week?  Please tell me I'm not alone in enjoying Zoe Ball's tango and Darren Gough's foxtrot.

Its not for me Gill.

I dont watch soaps, reality, game shows, X factor or anything that has a so called celebrity in it.

Doesnt leave me much to watch apart from a few films, documentaries, current affair programmes and the odd sitcom  :(

I don't watch it Gill but Mrs Clive and I regularly go ballroom dancing.

I'd really like to learn that sort of dancing.  My other half reckons we should have lessons after Christmas, but I doubt anything will come of it.  Still, it would be a good way to get some exercise and an excuse to forget about the traditional New Year diet.  I'd love to be able to tell my skinny friend, "No, dahling, we dancers are as fit and fiddles and need the additional calories.  So I think I might have another eclair."

:)

You may have difficulty in getting lessons Gill because apparently there is a shortage of ballroom dance teachers at the moment due to the resurgence in popularity.

I don't usually watch this type of programme, but I have got into the X Factor, not because I particularly like any of the singers (although Brenda has the best voice I have ever heard on a woman) but because the rather childish rivalry between the judges, Cowell, Walsh and Mrs Osbourne has been hilarious.

i always catch the first 20 mins whilst eating my dinner with my parents (well thats if I am in) and I'm glad I can eat quick and then be antisocial! :-)

Oh and Clive, the hair is still short (well not as it once was but still perfectly professional) - however I have this weird growth on my face that has shapped itself into a bit of a beard....

I've also experienced that Sam, but I find that purchasing a very inexpensive razor will usually solve the problem.

lol, but in my case it is there on purpose... and a moderately expensive one keeps it in order!

I too follow the X factor, Dave and don't you think it's odd that for the last 2 series all judges manage to have one act left in the final.

It's staring you in the face that no matter how many folks phone in it's fixed who's going and who's staying.

There is just no way Simon Cowell would leave himself with no act in the final 3.

I think Brenda has a great voice and very versatile but she won't win.

They will have already decided who's going to win.

Do you think they are going to run the risk of spending money on a contract based on what the British Public say.!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree Lona - a complete fix in my eyes.

Anyhow I missed the results show for Strictly Come Dancing and believe Cliff Richard performed on it - anyone got a copy or know of where I can view/download the episode.  It doesn't seem to be repeated anywhere.

I know - I'm sad !  :?

I hate to admit it, but Cliff put on a superb performance on Saturday   .  The results were very dramatic and apparently all the judges shook their heads in despair when it was announced that James Martin had been voted into the semi-final.

Good news - the local dance school will be starting a new beginners' class in January costing £4.50 per person :) .  That's pretty reasonable for an hour's worth of entertainment, although I understand some other schools charge as little as £3.50 per hour.

It costs us £5 each for an hour and a half but it's worth every penny Gill.

I like one or two of his records!!  No, DJ, I'm afraid I don't have a copy, as I would rather have root canal work, without anaesthetic, than watch an episode of SCD!   :P

Don't worry Sandra.  Root canal surgery without anaesthesia isn't as bad as it's cracked up to be.  Unfortunately, I know this from personal experience :( .

Actually its an appointment with a member of that increasingly rare and almost extinct breed, a NHS dentist  :)

I have been without a dentist for almost 2 years, after my previous practice partnership split up and they all went their seperate ways and went private  :(

I have always had 6 monthly checkups for as long as I remember until that time and very rarely needed any treatment apart from a filling or a crown every 5 or 6 years, if that.

So it came as no surprise that last february I lost a rather large filling  :(

I contacted NHS direct and asked for an emergency dentist in my area and they put me on the waiting list for a NHS dentist.

As I wasnt actually in tremendous agonising pain I couldnt get it done as an NHS emergency

I put up with eating on one side of my mouth and frequent use of a toothpick to extract peanuts and such from the gaping hole in my tooth until I managed to get in at my old dentists about 8 weeks ago, who had started a practice up in the old premises but for private patients only, but would carry out emergency NHS treatment.

I said that it was causing me pain this time when I rang up, so that they would treat me

When she saw my tooth she said it needed a root canal to save the tooth.
That cant be done on the NHS, only the nerve can be removed to stop the pain then it would need a privately done filling at £200 +

She could remove it on the NHS or put a temporary filling in  :(

I settled for the temporary filling which has lasted very well so far.

This afternoon I received a phone call from a dentist about 3 miles away who asked if I was still on the waiting list for a NHS dentist. I told him I was and so I now have an appointment for monday  :)

There are no NHS dentists at all in our area.  Ours went private last July and we were lucky enough to get back in with him on a private plan at £9.50 a month which includes 2 free check-ups each year and reduced treatment charges.

I hadn't been to the dentist for 23 years (!!), when a few weeks ago, I thought I had lost a filling, so I went to the surgery most locals recommend, and asked to register, expecting to have to go private.  I was most surprised to find that most surgeries in this area are still accepting NHS patients, and in fact, one new surgery is actually advertising for them!  I got an appointment within 3 days, and then found that it wasn't a filling I had lost, but half a tooth!    After a most uncomfortable clean up, I was given the option of a normal filling, a crown, or a 'white' filling, which apparently lasts the longest, so I went for that one, which I got an appointment for the following week.  Total cost for cleaning and the filling - £82.

Thats cheap Clive, was he a member of your sheep fancying group

When my previous dentist, prior to the partnership ones splitting up, went private I was offered a dental plan for £22-50 per month
