Knoppix

(1/1)

Dack:
Don't know if any of you have tried this but have to say I'm VERY impressed.

It's basically a distribution of Linux that runs from the CD - in other words you don't have to install anything for it to work.  It includes open office, loads of utilities, browsers etc.

Had a hard drive failure today (40 Gig lost :( ) and so I'm currently connected to this site with the version I downloaded a few months ago - it detected the network cards, modem, configured the Internet connection and allowed me to access the drive that had gone faulty.

So for anyone who wants to try Linux without any risk (as all you normal PC settings will remain intact) download and burn the software image from;

That's an incredibly handy tip, Dack.  Cheers very much!  The filesize is a bit daunting so it'll have to be a weekend job, but I'll let you know how I get on -- assuming I survive this Friday's planned festivities.   ;)

chorleydave:
I'm sure I saw this on a free cover disk with one of this month's Linux mags.
