since it is all linux apps.. for anyone who doesn't know GNOME is one of the many different desktop environments for linux... its probably the most popular but then again KDE fans would argue against me

bit of a random webpage but lost of content. It has some good content but I'm not sure if some of it isn't just a copy and paste job off other sites. Though note the ways they suggest doing things isn't always the best - it depends on your distribution and very much worth trying to be distribution specific (e.g. with ubuntu you can use apt to get most packages), though quite a lot of the core is the same.
