New Database Makes Stolen Phones Useless To Thieves
A new mobile phone database launched today will prevent stolen mobile phones from being used on any UK mobile network helping to make them worthless to thieves. Reporting the number of your stolen phone to your network operator will now enable it to be cancelled like a stolen credit card. This applies to both pre pay and contract phones.

So anyone can report a mobile number, which will then be disconnected?  I can see the pranksters having some fun with that one!

I can't see that spoofing a user profile would be too much of a problem to the sufficiently resourceful, Lona.  We shall see, eh?

If you dial in *#06#, it will give you the 15 digit serial number of your phone.  What use this is, I'm not quite sure, but I suppose if your phone is stolen, and recovered by the police it could be used to identify your phone, even if the SIM card has been changed.

You would have to explain that one to me Rodders. The last time I called Tmobile for my son they would not entertain me even when I said I was his mum and could give the correct post code and addy. Because I did not know his password they would not give me any assistance.
