Can our TV signals be picked up on other planets?

(1/2) > >>

Simon:
A television company has joined forces with a social networking site to send a message to the nearest theoretically inhabitable planet. But can our television and radio broadcasts already be picked up in space?

sam:
lol. It will take a very long period of time... also our transmitters aren't really as powerful as they once were. Still though, why not - is a fundamental thing about the Drake equation that we aren't doing ourselves (broadcasting our existence).  Thought I'm pretty sure that www.bloginspace.com has been doing this for quite sometime.

Simon:
So, in a galaxy far away, they could be seeing the moon landings!

sam:
lol.. bit lame isn't it!

oh and that should probably be on a planet within 50 light years ... doesn't really have the same ring to it though does it!
