I just tried Rodders test and had the following results:

Speed Test Report

Broadband Speed Test - for BT Openworld - 512k service
By Daniel Elwell - dannyelwell2001@msn.com
Get this test from http://www.vantage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

meet the development costs. No ISPs pay me to maintain this test.
More information: http://www.vantage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/donate.htm

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These results are only a snapshot of this particular moment. They are dependant
on any other Internet use on this computer and any delays
on the Internet. To improve accuracy, run the test several times.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Section 1: General Ping Results
A Ping test is the time taken for a server to reply to a request

Main Server:
   22ms - Normal - it's about right!

UK Server 1 (www.demon.net):
   21ms - Normal - it's about right!

UK Server 2 (www.bbc.co.uk):
   21ms - Normal - it's about right!

UK Server 3 (www.ic24.net):
   24ms - Normal - it's about right!

USA East Coast Server (www.yahoo.com):
   111ms - Normal - to be expected

USA West Coast Server (www.lycos.com):
   104ms - Fast - very fast response

European Server (www.marcopoly.com):
   25ms - Excellent - better than expected

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Section 2: Custom Server Ping Results
These results are to four user-definable servers.
Blueyonder Counter-Strike 1:
   28ms -
Blueyonder Team-Fortress Leage 1:
   28ms -
BarrysWorld Master Server (all games):
   0ms - *** PING timed out ***
Barrysworld Quake III Arena:
   22ms -
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Section 3: Download Speed Results
Three downloads are tested; one from one of your ISPs servers, one through your Transparent Cache and one through an alterntive cache. This will give you an idea of how capable your connection is. Note: You should take the highest download speed into account.

BT Openworld - 512k service Server Download:
   0KB/s (0Kb/s) - **** SERVER ERROR: Unexpected error from Server****

Download through Transparent Cache:
   54KB/s (432Kb/s) - Average, though much higher should be achieved

Download through alternative Cache (webcache.bt.net):
   58KB/s (464Kb/s) - Perfect - running at full speed!

* It appears that the alternative cache is working better than the BT Openworld - 512k service cache. To improve Web Browsing, set the Proxy Server in your Web Browser to webcache.bt.net on port 3128*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Section 4: Packet Loss
50 Ping Requests are sent to your server. The packet loss is measured by how many of the packets don't bounce back to the client. High packet loss may slow down your connection.
50 packets were sent, 49 bounced back; 2% loss (estimated)
   Excellent - hardly any packets discarded
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Section 5: Transparent Cache Page Fetch Time
This test times how long your Transparent Cache takes to fetch a page from the Internet. Please note that this test is subject to many different parameters and sometimes may not be 100% accurate. This test can be used to show delays when trying to view Internet sites. The timing takes place from the moment the request for the file is sent to the moment the proxy server responds.

Average time taken to retrieve a page: 113ms - Slightly poorer than expected

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Section 6: Network Connection Settings
The settings shown below are the settings that the system is currently using for connecting to the Internet
Default TTL: Default
On my new broadband connection I get the following:
ADSL Speed Test:
Downstream 454 Kbps (56.8 KB/sec) 490 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 240 Kbps (30.0 KB/sec) 259 Kbps (inc. overheads)
I think this is about average  :-\
Yup, it does vary, but that looks fairly good, DJ.  Don't think I've had much better out of mine.  By the way, who are you with?
Force9, only chose them cos I upgraded from an Unmetered account and use their webspace (250mb) a lot.
Had no probs with them in the past - if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it!  ;)
I'm with PlusNet also, your right the 250MB webspace allocation is generous, I've only used 4MB so far.
And if you subscribe to any of their unmetered packages you can have three domain names hosted FOC. Plus you can register your very own www .co.uk web address normaly [£45+vat] also FOC.
They are a good outfit, only downside they are not as liberal with the hours on line as some, but no mandatory 2 hour cut-offs to contend with.
