Her pc was running so slow and it was getting late so we didnt have time to analyse which processes they were, it would have been nice to have had a screenshot if you can manage to do one and post it here Michelle  :)

She did say that none of them seemed to be using much of the cpu/ram though.

I wonder if a posted log from a HijackThis scan would reveal anything?

Its worth a try as I think theres something definately running that shouldnt be.
The processes would be a good start though and possibly easier to interpret.

I note HJT now seems to be stabled with Trend Micro, but it's still free, and you can submit a log for analysis.

Yes thanks for all of your help last night sandra........... hey i can type, this is a test - i ran a few more scans and nothing, then i updated (?) the ATI driver although when I restarted the computer it said, The Catalyst control centre isn't support by this driver please update it?  so thats odd. I'm not sure if that matters. Do I need the control centre.  Here we go its getting unresponsive again - pfff

I wouldn't like to guess any further, Michelle, as it may do more harm than good.  :(

You don't really need it, Michelle. It would be worth running MSConfig, and trying the diagnostic startup, if that helps, then go to the selective startup option and disable everything which isn't MS, restoring stuff one at a time until you have problems.

If that didn't help, then I'd be thinking along the lines of an OS re-install, Michelle, it might be quicker than trying to track the problem.

Look at the additional option at the bottom of the reply box - it won't work if you're using quick reply though.

In the normal reply screen (not the Quick Reply box) click Additional Options, and you can attach an image, Michelle.

I assume you've tried a System Restore, to before this started happening?

(And what Rik said).  ;)
