Google speeds up news with Fast Flip
« on: September 15, 2009, 21:31 »
Google has introduced a tool that it claims will help you get your daily fix of news faster and more efficiently.

Google hopes to speed up the way we ingest our daily fix of news with a new innovation.

Fast Flip is a new offering from Google Labs that lets you 'flip' through news stories without having to refer back to index pages.

"Fast Flip is a new reading experience that combines the best elements of print and online articles. Like a print magazine, Fast Flip lets you browse sequentially through bundles of recent news, headlines and popular topics, as well as feeds from individual top publishers," Krishna Bharat of Google News said.

"As the name suggests, flipping through content is very fast, so you can quickly look through a lot of pages until you find something interesting. At the same time, we provide aggregation and search over many top newspapers and magazines, and the ability to share content with your friends and community," Bharat continued.

You can also personalise Fast Flip by rating articles you see, so the more you use it, the more relevant the content should be to you.

Google even went as far as to suggest that Fast Flip could help save the fast-declining newspaper industry.

"The publishing industry faces many challenges today, and there is no magic bullet. However, we believe that encouraging readers to read more news is a necessary part of the solution. We think Fast Flip could be one way to help," Bharat said.

I tend to stick to BBC News, but that could be interesting, thanks Clive.  :)
