Re:UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

Hi,

Every time I turn on my PC it won't start up - it restarts when Windows XP tries to load up.  It came up with the following error message when I tried, unsuccessfully, to run the recovery program:-

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME STOP:0*000000ED(0*85B949DO, 0*C0000006, 0*00000000, 0*00000000).

I don't have a Windows XP CD.  Is there any way I can rectify the problem without using a Windows XP CD?

Thanks.

Matt.

Hi Matt and :welcome:

Will it start in safe mode ?

If so you could try running Chkdsk /f from the run box.
I will say it cant run as its in use but will ask if you want to schedule it on the next startup, say yes and reboot.

This might help, Mattieh, but it does look like you need your XP CD. :(

You could download Hirens Boot CD and use that to do various things from that like, FixMBR or run Mini XP to enable you to run CHKDSK /F amongst other things.

http://hotfile.com/dl/36432014/e585b32/9Down.COM_Hirens.BootCD.10.3.rar.html

You will have to wait a bit for the download to start and it may be a bit slow using the free option but its worth getting.

Thanks for the reply.  In the end, I got a neighbour's XP disc to sort it out.  It's absolutely fine now!

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.  Much appreciated.

Matt.
