The Chorley and Leiston Thread

Great win today in the FA Trophy against Marine from the Evo Stick Premier Division - the league above.  One of the best games I've seen at Chorley in recent seasons. Went in 0-1 down at half time and in spite of laying seige to the Marine goal for long periods, with twenty minutes to go it looked as if it was never going to happen.  Then  Matt Jansen came on as sub. His equaliser from about 30 yards was brilliant and his headers to set up Jordan Stepien for the second and third were sheer class, matched only by the quality of Stepien's strike for that third - lobbing the keeper from out on the right from a seemingly impossible angle.

Let's go f***in' mental!  ;D

0 - 0 today, away from home. So have to say a welcome point but 2 dropped according to the local radio

Simon:
Great result!

From the "Liverpool Echo"

--- Quote ---FORMER Premier League star, Matt Jansen came off the bench to turn this game on its head, scoring one and creating another to end Marine’s interest in this season’s FA Trophy.

Chorley are enjoying a superb season under the management of Garry Flitcroft and as unbeaten leaders of the NPL Division One, always looked likely to provide a stern test for a Marine side dogged by inconsistency, but this was a game Kevin Lynch’s side were well placed to win, having led until the 75th minute.

Afterwards, Marine boss Lynch bemoaned his players’ inability to hold the lead.

He said: “We do our homework and we tell the players what to do but if they’re not prepared to listen they won’t be here long.

“Stupid goals are killing us every week and I’m gutted today as there was a big financial reward at stake and the fans were excellent.”

Against the run of play the visitors took the lead, Ryan McMahon’s huge punt up field being headed on by Thomas Moore for an unmarked Neil Harvey to coolly side foot home from 12 yards for his third goal in two games for Marine.

It took the introduction of former £4.1m Blackburn Rovers forward Jansen to change the game.

Three minutes after coming on Jansen took advantage of a Marine side appealing vainly for a foul to advance on goal and equalise from the edge of the area. Only minutes later Chorley were in the lead, Jansen turning provider as his headed knock back found Jordan Stepien who made no mistake from a few yards out.

Stepien completed the comeback with a spectacular late volley.

Beat Curzon Aston tonight 2-1 in the Lancashire FA Trophy.  Not much to report, except that Curzon's goalkeeper opened the scoring when a long kick out went straight over the Chorley Keeper and then he nearly equalised when he came up for a corner with two minutes to go, but headed wide!

Oh, and the weather was awful - horizontal rain for most of the match.
