Buffer underruns on CD recording
« on: November 19, 2002, 09:15 »
I always used to have problems when recording music CD's with "buffer underrun" error message.

I have just read that I should change my computer from desktop PC to Network Server because it will increase the size of the file system cache memory, which can help to prevent buffer underruns when recording in Disc At Once mode.  It says to make the change. right click on My Computer, select Properties, System Properties, Performance Tab, File System and make the change on the "Typical Role" drop down menu.

I think that would probably work in W98 Clive, but it's not needed in XP.

Anyway any CDRW you can buy these days will almost certainly come with "Buffer Underrun Protection" of some kind, which virtually eliminates a CDRW drives coaster-making abilities  ;)

Clive, what software do you use?  Have you used the built in 'Copy To CD' function in XP?  Or if you are doing straight 'on the fly' copies, I have found Nero to be very satisfactory.  I haven't made a coaster yet!!   ;D

At the moment none at all because I don't have a CDRw.  But all that is about to change as I am getting one tomorrow.

That means I will have to read the Nero thread now.   ;D

I sense a tinge of jealousy Simon.  Even our wives are starting to talk.   ;D  ;D  ;D

My scanner is a BenQ, but it's not what I actually ordered, as the one I ordered was out of stock.  I'm quite pleased with this one though.  Never heard of BenQ before.

Well just for the "speed-freaks" among us ive seen a 52X24X52  :o  :o :o CDRW drive. It can be found here: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/cdrw.htm

God thats fast. I bought a Plextor in November last year and that was the fastest one in the world and that was 24X10X40 lol.

Any its only 60 quid  ;D ;D

Hey BB that site has some cheap DVD writers too  :)
May wait a few months and just get one of those if they carry on coming down in price so quickly  ;)
