Apple syncs music and more with iCloud
« on: June 06, 2011, 22:14 »
Apple has unveiled iCloud, its cloud-based storage and syncing system, alongside new OSes for Macs, iPhones and iPads.

Steve Jobs took to the stage at Apple's World Wide Developers' Conference in San Francisco to unveil the free iCloud system, which will see data and downloads backed up in the cloud and streamed to devices.

The system officially kills off MobileMe - which Jobs mocked as not being Apple's "finest hour".

Services from that system - including contacts, mail and calendar - will now be synchronised over the cloud, so any changes on one device are automatically updated on all of a user's devices, and backed up as well.

There was no word from Apple on what that means for subscribers of the $99-a-year MobileMe system.

The new iCloud system means Apple stores all purchased apps and content, as well as user-generated photos and docs, and syncs them to up to ten of a user's devices.
