Favorites Icons

Simon:
OK, here's a puzzler.

In the favorites list, in IE, there is the blue 'e' Internet Explorer icon next to each entry.  Is there any way to change all these for something more interesting?

Sandra:
I shouldnt think so Simon. All mine are the same except of Altavista (Babelfish) and PC911 have there own logo there  ::)
You could group them in folders and scatter your folders about to make pretty patterns I suppose  ;)

Adept:
The "Favicon" as it is called is controlled by the web site Simon.

It is actually a small bitmap in a file called "favicon.ico" which is kept in the same folder as the index page for the site. When you "add to favourites", IE will request this file and incorporate the icon into the shortcut.

Mustapha Phagg:
If you click on favourites then right click on the item in the box is properties, click on that and you will be able to change the icon. A lot of DLL files contain icons so search for the one you want.

This works in Win 98, don't know about XP or WK2.

Oh right, thanks Adept.  That explains why some websites have their own icons, and some don't.   :)

Yes, thanks for that, Mustapha.  I knew about changing individual icons, but as I have about 200 'Favorites' in 15 different folders, I was looking for a way to do them all at once!   :)
