Amazon Fire TV
« on: December 25, 2015, 19:20 »
Has anyone purchased one of these Amazon Fire TV units. Amazon have reduced them and my daughter gave me a Amazon voucher for £30 as part of me Christmas present so now the time to consider it.

Any comments would be nice.   :D

I have one.  It works fine, and you can get stuff like BBC iPlayer and YouTube free, but most other things are on a subscription.  You don't get Netflix free.

I thought there was a lot of free stuff on Fire TV?  Or am I confusing it with Amazon Prime?   :dunno:

I'm registered for Amazon Prime so I would get the movies and music for free.  :D

Well, you have to pay for Amazon Prime, then it's free.   ;D

As I said, you get BBC iPlayer, YouTube and a couple of other catchup apps for free, but most of the good stuff you have to pay for.  I believe they are shortly introducing ITV Player, and Channel 4, which it doesn't currently have.

Mrs Clive informs me that ITV Player is now ITV Hub but unlike ITV Player, ITV Hub actually works!  ::)

set up was very good indeed. A couple of problems (well three actually) 1: TV only had two HDMI ports and I required three (disconnected the recorder for now. 2: BOSE soundbar works with TV/Freesat but not with Amazon Fire (Help). 3: Can't get ITV Hub to work, I've downloaded it but it then welcomes me to BT Home Hub 5 and nothing else. (Help).  :dunno:

1.  Something like this would do the trick: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Betron-HDMI-Switcher-Connectors-support/dp/B00KCPY5Y0

2.  If the sound bar is connected to your TV audio out, there should be no reason why it wouldn't work.

3.  No idea, sorry.  :)

;D I have ordered a HDMI adapter so that should sort out the port shortage. Now onto the problem of the Bose Solo Soundbar.  ::)
