Motorola Moto G4 16GB Dual SIM-Free Smartphone - White
Clive:
When at sea we will pick up the ship's mobile signal and that's expensive enough. But once in port there is usually a local service the phone gets attached to. I don't understand roaming - if I turn it off will I not pick up a signal?
Simon:
I think you can get some sort of plan from your service provider for using data abroad, so that it doesn't cost the earth. It might be worth investigating that with Tesco's before you go, otherwise all you need to do is simply turn off mobile data on the phone. You will still then be able to receive calls and texts, but you will only be able to get online access via Wi-Fi.
Clive:
Ah right! So it only affects data. Thanks for that Simon.

Tesco had a local rates roaming policy in certain EU countries over summer 2016 (just in time for us going to Spain ). Not sure what is happening the first half of this year with roaming charges, guess it depends on your provider.
There's an EU wide agreement that comes into force in June I think, allowing all EU citizens local rate charges when abroad.............er well we might get the benefit for a bit if Theresa doesn't mess that up as well, anyway it's so unbritish having cheap calls :o: :bawl:
Clive:
;D Absolutely Dave! I'm with Tesco mobile too and have always found them to have very good coverage. I have to say I'm a bit nervous about it all since I've not previously had a smartphone. I may decide not to set it up until after we get back just in case anything goes wrong. The old phone has always been OK when we are abroad and I would hate to be out of contact with the family.
