HD prob

Barra:
Here's one for new forum:-
Under device manager, I have a (!) next to Primary IDE controller (dual fifo), resulting in drives C and D using ms-dos compatiability mode file system, causing my pc to run VERY slowly. I've had this since fitting a 2nd hd. Any ideas?

Adept:
Ooh real problems to solve this early  :o ;D

First thing you should do is check for a virus on the second drive. Are you still running two av proggys for the belt and braces approach?  ;D

It may also be that the IDE controller drivers are corrupt and need re-installing. These are usually on a CD supplied with the motherboard.

I have to say that I had this problem once on my son's PC. There was nothing wrong with the drive or the drivers. In the end I gave up and took the drive out ;) ;D

I'm only running pc cillin now and a seperate one for bugbear. Not showing any sign of a virus. It's been showing since new drive was installed. I's only 1.7ghz, solely for the purpose of myWin ME. I have reinstalled windows completly but hasn't solved the problem

Sandra:
You forgot to say it did go briefly when you deleted it from the device manager once and after a restart it found it and lost the exclamation mark. But on subsequent reboots it came back.Does that give you any more ideas Adept? :-*

Barra:
Thanks Sand, forgot that. It disappeared after I updated whatever it was I updated( :-[)
