"In the buff" stems from the fact that a buff-coat was a light browny/yellow leather tunic worn by English soldiers up until the 17th century. The original meaning of 'in the buff' was simply to be wearing such a coat. Later on, 'in the buff' was used to mean naked, due to the colour of the skin, which is similar to the buff coat.

The largest flower in the world is the Rafflesia, or “corpse flower.” Its odor is similar to that of a decomposing mammal, which earns this giant flower its nickname. Found in the rainforests of Indonesia, it can grow to be 3 feet across and weigh up to 15 pounds.

Joseph Pulitzer (for whom the famous Pulitzer Prize in journalism and other literary endeavors is named) used his newspaper, The World, to earn funds for the statue of Liberty, especially by allowing submissions to his editorial pages.

In the early 1900s, Mary Isabel Fraser visited China and brought back seeds to New Zealand. She grew the first crop of kiwi in 1910. Today, New Zealand produces 1/3 of the world’s supply of kiwi.
