ADSL modem problem
« on: November 03, 2002, 21:51 »
OK, as some of you may know, I have an ADSL modem, with my Pipex ADSL Broadband 512Kbps super highway ISP.   ;D

Now, if I have to reboot my PC for any reason, the modem refuses to initialise / synchronise, whatever you want to call it, following boot up.  All I get is the green flashing light.  I then have to shut down my machine, which then hangs on the 'Windows is shutting down' screen, and I eventually have to manually power off.  Grrr.  The modem always fires up OK from a 'cold start'.

As there seems to be no software options to do so, is there any other way that anyone knows of to reset / reinitialise a modem?  I even tried pulling the USB out, but that didn't do anything either.

Any ideas gratefully received, except shouts of abuse from 56K'ers   :)  ;D

Well. if it was 98, there is a bug in that OS where the pc hangs on shutting down.
XP is above me  8)

after you restart, do pull the power cable out and then put it back in?

Well, I have done, but then the tray icon just goes red (as in disconnected), and there's no way to reset it.  :(

how bout release and renew? im not to sure if they work on XP.
Usually if my Cable modem goes off, it will flash orange a few times, then go green, but will continually flash orange if it can't connect to the remote server.

I haven't had a problem with restarting yet, so i don't really know a solution :(

This is all the configuration I can find.  There's no release / renew / reset, or anything else as far as I can see, unless I'm being totally stupid, which wouldn't be surprising!

...Unless you are supposed to enter commands where it says 'Data'?  There is a curser there.   ???

Edit: Nope - just tried that, can't change it.   :(

Simon: I have the same problem on Win 98, your modem software is exactly the same as mine and I have tracked it down to the drivers.
If I uninstall the modem drivers windows shuts or resets ok, as soon as the drivers go back in it hangs and I have to press the button to shut or reset the computer.

Installing the newest drivers makes no difference so like you I amm stuffed.

Hi Must,

Well I've just e-mailed Fujitsu, so maybe we could get an answer.   :)

Simon: if you bring up the ADSL modem box and then hover your mouse over a blank bit you do a rapid series of left and right clicks on the mouse buttons and it brings up another menu for you to play with.

It also has a restart button in one of the advanced menus.

Maybe this will be oof some use mate.

Mustapha, that's brilliant!!  I can't understand why they have to hide it away!   ::)  I'll definitely give that a try.

Thanks a lot!   :)
