« on: August 03, 2003, 01:19 »
Why does a PC with windows 98 installed not allow an upgrade to 98SE and says it needs a specal upgrade CD  ???

(Subtle,or not so subtle hint to Brian  ;) ) :doggie:

It's probably on OEM version Sandra, which doesn't allow upgrade.

There is a simple solution though ... ;) ;D

To upgrade from win95 or win98 to win98se you need to rename the file win.com in win98 to win.ooo this fools win98se into thinking there is no win95/98 installed, then boot from floppy and run setup from the win98se CD instructing the program to install to C:\windows

As always back up any data, address books and documents before you try this

I would always advise a format and clean install because after a while in use windows collects a load of garbage in the registry and other places and just upgrading is not really a good answer to problems

As someone who once tried carrying you home while the worse for wear I beg to differ ;)

Isn't rippling another word for wobbling :)

:mg: is it really you, you old reprobate :o ;D I saw the name Dack and thought no - it can't be. I haven't seen you for YEARS! A big :welcome: to my mate from college!

The evening in question is still a total blur to me after we started walking home. My parents still talk about how you managed to carry my all that way, you being the thin thing that you were (are?) and me being me  ::)

Apparently I almost had a ride in a Police Car that night too, if it hadn't been for you :) All I really remember is the two days of  :vomit:

As everyone on here will vouch - I haven't touched a drop since ;D ;D
