Well it will either work or it wont Tony :P
It cant do any damage as far as I can tell doing it that way.
Are the headphone/speaker sockets not mounted into a plastic bit at the front ?
If they are then they wouldnt be earthed, unless they were connected to an earthing tag nearby  ???

out of focus but you can see that they are just normal mic/speaker connectors

I cant see either being earthed on that set up Tony as its a plastic case and the sockets would pull away with the front cover I should think.
Have you got a multi meter so that you can check to see if theres a circuit between the 2 sockets so that we can be sure if they have a common earth going somewhere  ???

Nar, now't like that Sandra, but I keep meaning to get one.

Mind you I ain't even got a set of headphones, because I work on the logic, that if its good enough for me to listen too, every bugger can listen a well, I'm not mean you know.  :) I once had a microphone but I give that away.

Just the other week I gave a plastic Heron away, see what I mean   ::)

Have you got a torch bulb and a battery and a piece of wire?
Disconnect the sockets from the mobo and just see if it will make a circuit using the outside of the 2 sockets as a switch :doggie:

I'm reluctant to say this, because I know it's a stupid question, and someone's bound to take the pi$$, but if your Motherboard has 'on board' sound, you don't need a sound card do you?

The reason I'm asking is all this talk of sound leads, etc, which I haven't bothered with, as my Asus A7V8X-X has onboard 6.1 sound, the software being on the CD that came with the motherboard.

Some people arent happy with the onboard sound Simon so they disable it in BIOS and add a soundcard.
If you/your friend are happy with the sound then leave it as it is,if not add a soundcard  :-*
