Go to START,RUN then type CMD and then click OK and a DOS window appears.
At the prompt type ping xx.xx.xx.xx and then hit the enter key on your keyboard.
X equals the IP of your no 1 PC Keith.
If you are not sure what no 1 PCs IP is,if you go to network connections and clcik on LAN it should show you an IP address at the bottom left side of the window :doggie:

Not sure which version of Windows you have Keith, but here goes:-

Click your Start button
Choose Run
If you have Win95,98 or ME
In the open box type command and press ENTER
If you have Win2000 or XP
In the open box type cmd and press ENTER

A DOS prompt window should open.

At the prompt type ping www.ebay.com (or whatever Ebay address you are using) and press ENTER

You should then see four "Reply from" lines and some "Ping Statistics". Otherwise you will get something like the picture below.

Getting back ON TOPIC

What software is running on the second PC Keith? Do you have a firewall for instance. It may be that Ebay has been inadvertantly blocked by your firewall.

They are both on XP Pro.
I have taken the firewall off whilst trying to sort this out

It may be my fault Keith as I have a router on mine so it shows a LAN,I thought that yours would having an ethernet cable connecting your PCs too, have you got a dial up or other connection in their?
If so right click it and go to properties then advanced and it will have the option for Internet Connection Firewall to be enabled by ticking it.
Make sure that this is unticked :doggie:

Hi
There is a firewall box on no. 1 computer that is disabled.
There isn't one on the second computer
It is on broadband which is not "allways on" but not dial up if you can follow that

Sorry Keith for some reason I thought that you were on cable BB,I just re read some posts and youre on Plusnet so thats ADSL.
I just noticed this too :
There is "area connection 16"  and  "local area connection 18" but cannot find Lan.
I havent come across those terms before but I assume that to connect to the net on no.1 PC you have a shortcut that connects you via Area Connection 16 ?
That would make your LAN the Local Area Connection 18 (LAN is an abbreviation for local area network)
Can you find properties on either of those connections by right clicking on them and then go to the ADVANCED tab and make sure that Internet Connection Firewall is unticked on both please.
