Topic: Shutting down/logging off

I have a minor but very very annoying problem.  My computer refuses to turn off.  If you turn off using start-turn off/restart or log off nothing happens.  If however you switch users to get back to the log on screen the shut down/restart facility work.  I would really like a solution because its getting annoying. Thanks!  I have windows xp pro sp1 fully updated

Could be LOTS of things. Worth having a look here and trying some of the suggestions.
