Matthias Wandel is a renowned eccentric in the woodwork community.  One day he'll shock us all by making something that a non-woodworker desires!

Who on earth would make one of these when it's so much cheaper to buy one?  The whole point of tools is that they should enable you to produce needed items, not more tools.  Mind, there are quite a few woodworkers who would disagree with me.  It takes all sorts...

I guess he gets some pleasure out of it.  :)

For those who haven't seen them before, these pens are hand made from African blackwood and maple.

I'm still waiting for the price list.  ;)

They'll be about £25 to £30.  However, I've got a lot of domestic duties which are interfering with my hobby at present, so it may be a while before I start thinking commercially.

You haven't got Maurice very well trained then!  ;D

Maurice isn't the problem - he's got my thumb prints all over him (thank goodness he doesn't visit this forum!).  However, I've got two chihuahuas and they're about as easy to control as crocodiles.  One is very elderly (almost 17) and blind.  She pines dreadfully if I'm not in her immediate vicinity, so I only get to sneak into the workshop when Maurice is around to keep her company.  Just lately he's had a lot of agency work, so I've been a bit house-bound.  Added to which, there's been all the work going on to create my new kitchen.

Is the kitchen a self build?

No.  I'm pretty nifty when it comes to making fripperies, but when it comes to proper furniture I know my limitations.  It's a Houston flat-pack from Wickes, installed by a pro carpenter.
