Title: Windows Updates Nightmare
Post by: Simon on May 17, 2012, 23:20
I'm getting plagued by the same three Windows Updates, that keep wanting to install over and over again, all for .NET Framework 2.0 SP2.  I've tried to uninstall .NET Framework 2.0, but the bloody think won't let me because it says something else is dependant on it, but ever so helpfully, doesn't say what.  I've searched on Google, and the only solutions seem to be to manually install the updates, but I've done that, and they still keep popping up.  Has anyone else had this issue?

I've always found that if an update fails to install it will only keep trying for so long before giving up and  registering a failure.  I've especially experienced this with my netbook.

Not much help but I find the problems that the updates can (and do in my case) cause, outweigh any potential security or stability problems caused by not installing them. My final XP update last year killed the system and i had to to a repair, only to find i didn't have an os key sticker on the side of the pc, so had to buy a new one from the original retailer.  :bawl: I've been running Vista update free for 4 years (and it's as crap as ever, but running) and W7 will not be getting any updates unless i actually experience a problem first.

I think I'll probably just end up ticking the boxes to ignore them.

I update just once a year - during my two months summer break.  That way, I have loads of time to format and reinstall if the updates f*** up my system(s).

In the end, I found a Microsoft Fixit tool on the Microsoft website and that appears to have solved the problem, for now...

Note it's call fixIT, it doesn't tell you what it breaks elsewhere.

Yes, I wondered if the 'i' in FixIt should have been a 'u'.  :o:
