Rioja at £4.27 a bottle??? Bloody hell! To think Mrs Clive and I were only saying this morning that we don't need to buy any more wine this side of Christmas. :o:
-
The extension is full already, Clive?? :o:
-
I've had to reinforce the foundations Rik. ;D
-
I had the same problems with the computers. ;)
-
:aarrgh: The temptation is great, but I already have sooo many bottles of wine it's getting ridiculous! Still.... :leer:
-
You're too sober, Simon. Drink a couple of bottles and the logic will become irresistible.
-
I availed myself to the Rioja and also half price Champagne. :bawl:
-
I notice you're keeping quiet on quantities, Clive... :o:
-
 Half a dozen of each Rik. But I did something really stupid! They were also selling litre bottles of various spirits for £14 each but if you bought any 2 then there was a £3 discount. When I got to the checkout the cashier suggested that my total bill would probably top £100 which would give me two petrol vouchers if the goods were put through on two separate receipts of £50+. Somehow the vodka and whiskey became separated and I didn't notice I lost the discount until I got home! :aarrgh:

You should take Sue along, she managed to come back from M&S the other day with four 3 for 2 offers. :)
-
Crikey, I didn't know M&S ever had four 3 for 2 offers going at once! I love their food though, and occasionally have a modest spending spree with them.
-
There's a mass of offers on Xmas stuff at the moment...
-
You guys must make your wives and mothers very proud......... ;) ;D

I do like their Christmas cake, so I'll probably have a look in there soon. Trouble is, if I buy stuff too early, I eat it before Christmas, and end up having to go in a again when it's busy as hell. If only M&S did home deliveries here!

I have the same problem, Simon. Once it's in the house, it's fair game... :yeaah:
-
I'm debating on getting 2 cases of Jacob's Creek Rose. love the taste but its still £6 odd a bottle after the special offer which is a bit pricey :dunno: if anyone hears of this wine a lot cheaper, giz a shout :thumb:
-
If you enter the £15 off £50 spend code: XX-H96S into the link in no2 in the review & conformation page of the check-out then that brings it to £62.52 including delivery, £5.21 per bottle delivered. The only difference from the last deal is they were giving free delivery (£5) but that's not on at the moment.
It's £8.49 a bottle in Morrisons and £7.49 per bottle normally in Tescos and i doubt you could get it cheaper this side of Christmas :dunno:
The £15 off code expires 24/11/07

Thank's Cammy :hatoff: ah well I guess my staff are worth it so I may give it a whirl :thumb:

Send me up all your Merlot and I'll dispose of it for you, Simon.(https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.foren4all.de%2Fimages%2Fsmilies%2Fdrinks_drunk.gif&hash=615c10215acc243451ece429e1c14ed5bcf9d5ff)

Funnily enough, Merlot isn't one that I usually buy, Lona. I'm into Bordeaux, Beaujolais and Aussie Shiraz at the moment, but my favourite is still Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of my favourites too. I only buy it on special occasions though as it's so expensive. (https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.chefkoch.de%2Fimg%2Fsmileys%2Fbooze.gif&hash=e03cb2491c91ba73d4f7be1c42a8719ba396cd0c)

Have you guy's tasted La Chasse du Pape? it has to be my favourite red wine to date. I wonder if it is similar to Châteauneuf-du-Pape :dunno: I will need to buy a bottle to compare.
-
Can't see it being the same Serenity. La Chasse du Pape is a cote de rhone. The nearest I've found to Châteauneuf-du-Pape is Nuit St George but that costs and arm and a leg. (https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv208%2Fbevelheadgrl%2Fthud.gif&hash=6ffe749e5952135862d66a1d2c46da4537db4f10)
-
I haven't tasted La Chasse du Pape Serenity although I did once have a bottle of Nuit St George back in the '70's. I can, however, confirm that the Rioja which Tesco is selling for £4 a bottle is very very good. I suppose I might have to get in a further supply just in case we have a bad winter. ;D

Yes, I like La Chasse du Pape too!! It's one of the cases I've ordered from the Tesco's offer. I suppose it depends on how discerning a palette you have, but I didn't find it totally dissimilar to Chateauneuf, although I haven't tasted them side by side. It's certainly very enjoyable, Bev, if you like full flavoured deep reds.

Yes, it's still quite dear even with the offer. I have a couple of bottles over from last year, so I will enjoy those over Christmas.

I'm going to have to try this Rioja, as someone else also recommended it. I think I've been put off Spanish wines, because I had a really rank bottle of something or other last year, and haven't gone near Spanish since.
-
Are you sure that wasn't Spanish Fly, Simon? :evilban:
-
I don't usually like to see Rioja and Spanish wine in the same sentence Simon. :baad:
-
There is Rioja and then there are other Riojas. I've had some really rank ones. I just don't like Spanish wines. :ack:
-
I dont think you will like Rioja if you like the reds that you mentioned Simon.
No one makes red wines as good as the French do, usually.
-
If I don't like it, I'll send it to Clive. ;)
-

I dare to disagree with you Sandra. That may have been true a few years ago but these days Australian wines are far better than French wines.
-
Thanks Clive, I agree, but not my French sister-in law.
-
My favourite white is Chablis but nobody does reds as good as the Australians. Shiraz is incredibly good. The French made the mistake of selling their vines to the Australians who have made a good wine even better and at a cheaper price. Who can fail to like sparkling Chardonnay which is made from grapes grown on vines that originated in Champagne. It's the DB's I tell you!
-
I prefer real champagne made from mainly pinot noir as Dom Perignon originally made it, not the newer versions using chardonnay which can be made more cheaply through not using just the first pressing of the grape as is a necessity when using pinot noir, so that the wine doesnt get tinted by the skin.
As much as I like Australia and Australians, I tend to find that their reds have the same character as the people, a little harsh and unrefined at times ;D

Give me Chilean wine every time. (https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.chefkoch.de%2Fimg%2Fsmileys%2Fbooze.gif&hash=e03cb2491c91ba73d4f7be1c42a8719ba396cd0c)

Agree about Shiraz, but I've tried Chablis several times, and have never enjoyed it. The last bottle I had earlier this year had a lemony aftertaste, or 'finish' as I believe the wine buffs say, and I just couldn't get into it, so I had to finish the bottle in double quick time so as to get on to the next!

It's easier if you pour it in the bath first, Simon. Those bottle necks are sooo narrow. o:)

That's a bit harsh. :)x
