Title: Bob Monkhouse - the last stand.
Post by: Clive on May 05, 2020, 15:32
If there are any Bob Monkhouse fans here then there is a hidden gem on BBC iPlayer.  Recorded in 2003 in front of an audience of professional comedians it's Bob's final performance as a stand up comedian.  Yes there are jokes but it's really how Bob worked with
other comedians of his day and includes lots of anecdotes I'd not heard before.  Towards the end he brings on Mike Yarwood to explain why he disappeared from show business.  Well worth a watch.

Saw that a couple of years ago.  He was a brilliant comedian.

First time I ever heard of him he was a DJ on Radio Luxembourg with a programme called Smash Hits.  Listeners would write in to complain about a record which he would play for the "last time" and then pretend to smash it.

It must have taken about three weeks for him to receive the letters!

Most of it trying to find Luxembourg.  It does actually exist!  I worked with a Luxembourg girl who managed to escape to Wales.   Her departure must have halved the population
