Just a reminder to those of you who follow traditional methods of cooking Christmas dinner that you'll need to start boiling the sprouts by noon today if they're going to be ready in time for tomorrow.
;D

;D
Sprout soup. :ack:
-
:ack: :ack: :ack: :ack: :ack: :ack:
There's nothing worse than overcooked veg. I like mine crunchy! :)
-
Raw carrots for you then, Simon. ;D
-
Fine by me. :)
-
Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit. ;D
-
Gertcha! :D
-
;D
Hang on, David will catch up soon...
-
I love raw carrots, although cooking them improves their nutritional value. It's something about freeing up a chemical which would otherwise be locked in, but don't ask me to explain the science. I love rabbit too. In fact, most things that are either animal or vegetable in my neck of the woods have a chance of ending up on my chopping board. Except doggies (of course) and red cabbage. Broad beans get a reprieve too because I have an intolerance to them.
-
Me too on the beans, Gill, faintly ironic really. What have you got against red cabbage?
-
There won't be any sprouts on my plate! I hate the things with a vengeance. I like my veg steamed or microwaved so they retain as much flavour and goodness as possible. Parnip must be roasted of course! :D
-
Parsnip must have an S in it too. ;)
-
Only if you want more than one. ;D
-
Is there any other way? ;)
-
Course not! :D
-
I get to be in charge of the sprouts this year. Yay!
Thus mine will be firm and tasty, whilst Nita will be enjoying the delights of Sprout Sludge - any leftovers from which will be sprayed on the garden to keep cats away. :ack:

You sure you don't want to rephrase that.
-
I really don't like parsnips or any of that kind of vegetables. Cabbage and sprouts are great!
-
Parsnips are like Marmite, you love them or hate them. I'm in the former camp for both, but in the formerly former camp for the former.
-
:stars:
-
I can't eat Marmite anymore. ;)
-
I wouldn't be half the man I am today without having the odd parsnip.
-
Red cabbage is flavourless. Other cabbages are lovely, but red cabbage is a complete waste of a chopping board, if you ask me.
Parsnips are gorgeous! I've just finished preparing mine a la Blessed Delia, par boiled and coated with a mix of flour and parmesan. They'll sit quite happily in the fridge until tomorrow.
His Lordship bought a pound of chestnuts yesterday and it's taken me hours to peel them. Next year will be different.
-
Just gotta add my love for sprouts... looking forward to tomorrow as I've not found any good ones over in Calgary yet.
-
We're having beef tomorrow with roast potatoes, peas, broad beans carrots and Yorkshire puddings. :)
-
CB?

Sue usually works some magic on it in the cooking, tastes good by the time itt reaches me. She also does a white cabbage an onion dish which is a nice mix of flavours.

2lbs? ;D

CB?
Of course! :)

;D
-
I get a Quorn log :santa:
-
Is that like a Yule Log only vegetarian, Sam? ;)
-
;D
its my turkey... tis quite nice but if you think of it as turkey you'll be very disappointed.
-
Can't you have turkey and think of it as a Quorn log? ;D
-

lol. Not sure my stomach would agree.
-
Argue with it. ;D
-
Well, it's all over. The brined turkey tasted fantastic - succulent and flavoursome. Who would have thought a turkey could ever be described in such terms?
Now, it's time to put the sprouts on for next Christmas. And if any chestnuts arrive in our house next Christmas that aren't already peeled, I won't be responsible for my actions.
;)
-
Glad you enjoyed your meal, Gill. My Chataubriand wasn't bad either. :)
-
I had an almost vegetarian meal today, apart from the roast potatoes being done in goose fat and the plate being full of turkey and beef, the rest of it was almost 3 of the 5 a day things that were vegeatables ;D
-
Sounds very healthy, Sandra - it must be Christmas :) .
I roasted loads of potatoes in goose fat too, and I'm ashamed to say none of them have survived to Boxing Day. Even cold, they're sooo scrummy! Now the race is on to finish off the turkey because we don't have enough room in the fridge for the carcase.
-
I do like goose fat. :)

So does Lizzie... they had a nice big goose. Sometime I think I'm missing out... but then again everyone have to make an effort if they want me there :-)
-
I had a few years as a veggie, but eventually we drifted back to full carnivore status. I can live without eating meat, I just prefer not to.
-
DR carnivore burgers for me today, with Vampire Relish from the Garlic Farm. :woot:
-

It was Gill, lots and lots of meat cant fail to be healthy, nutritous and best of all very tasty :)
-
Turkey tortillas for lunch :) . It'll be turkey with bubble & squeak for dinner tonight. Turkey and chips tomorrow. Turkey curry the day after. Turkey broth the day after that.
I should imagine it'll be braised steak for New Year's Eve! We'll be turkey-ed out by then :) .
-
We've settled on Chateaubriand for New Year's eve. :)
-
I had a meat free day today. Unless you count the duck pate with orange that I had on toast as meat that is ;D
-
Not unless you want to, Sandra. :)
-
The toast sounds a bit dodgy, Sandra. I hope it was white, and not healthy wholemeal. ;)
-
Yes it was definately white and full of preservatives as it was that long life bread that is only fit for toasting :)
I must have had some of my 5 portions of fruit and veg though as it did say it was duck with orange pate :dunno:
