Title: Changing my AV
Post by: Clive on March 19, 2021, 16:54
I've decided to dump my Kaspersky AV as I'm becoming more and more convinced that it's taking over my computer by blocking websites and it will end up being a bot for Vlad's honchos.  I've decided to go with BitDefender on a two year contract in the hope I might regain access to my computer!

It was very easy to do and Bit Defender looks good.

Very much so.  It flashed up a warning regarding regular emails I receive from a website that offers ridiculously cheap deals.  I've been very tempted to buy from them but fortunately I've resisted.   :woot:  Kaspersky has been happy enough with the emails.

How is Bitdefender performing now Clive? Are you still happy with it? Which version are you using?   :)

I'm still happy with it and can let you have a code that will be valid for over 18 months if you would like to try it.

I've just purchased a two year licence for three computers so I will let you know how it goes.  :)

Well I've been running Bitdefender for the last few weeks and it performs really well and is not intrusive at all.

Thank you Clive.

I've decided to remove Bit Defender and instead rely on Microsoft Defender which is now supposed to be as good as anything on the market. It's my understanding that it kicks in when all other AV programs have been removed but I don't see it yet?

There's several things you might need to do.  Firstly, I'd suggest running the Bitdefender removal tool:

https://www.bitdefender.co.uk/uninstall/

Then reboot.

If Windows Security still doesn't activate, you might need to enable it in Settings > Updates and Security.

I've been using it on my new Desktop for about a year, and haven't encountered any issues.  The only slight annoyance is that if you've not used the machine for a while, Windows Security whinges that it's not been updated, making you perform a manual update, rather than just getting on with it.  Same with scans.

I deleted it via Control Panel so I'll have to revert to updates.

Eh?  If you mean you removed Bitdefender via Control Panel, you can still download and run the removal tool.  That will get rid of any traces that might cause problems.

Thanks Simon, I've now done that.  No problem getting Defender to take over and it seems to work quite well.  :thumb:
