Some, at least, are genuine, Clive.

Do they have observatories there, Sam, or would this be purely social?

Does the cold present special problems, other than to the astronomers?

I liked the look of Mount Roraima the best though i do prefer modern construction like the Millau Viaduct (http://www.siteselection.com/ssinsider/snapshot/sf050103.htm), Burj al Arab (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burj_Al_Arab), Taipei 101 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taipei_101) or The Oresund Bridge/Tunnel (http://www.guzer.com/pictures/bridge.php) between Sweden and Denmark.

I think modern day construction is underrated.

A lot of it is very elegant, Cammy, made possible by the new materials available to architects and engineers.

That link of the Millau Viaduct says something about "on Schedule, within Budget".  Can someone tell me what the English equivalent of that is, as we obviously don't know the terminology?  ;D  I'd love to go in the Oresund Bridge/Tunnel!   8-)

apart from motors freezing the colder the better for telescopes. Keeps the system temp lower and thus less interference.

And there is no, repeat no light pollution at all!  Not much good if you want to study the stars in the Plough.   ;D
