A peculiar problem I had last night. I went to windows updates and downloaded a file for IE6 q323759.exe.
When I tried to install it, a message said I needed to have IE6 installed, which I have. I decided to uninstall IE6 and re-install it. After a great deal of problems I managed to re-install IE6. When I then tried to install the afore mentioned file, I still get the same answer. It appears that my system does not recognise that I have IE6 installed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't trust Microsoft updates Lona, they are renowned for messing things up.
I still run IE5 with no problems and with no updates or security patches, no one has hacked into me yet.
Aint got nothing worth looking at anyway. ;D ;D

You leave my robes out of this Sandra. :o :o
Funny, they say it's the men that have the dirty minds, wonder who you were in a former life? ;D ;D

My suggestion would be to ignore the patch for now. If there's a problem with it, MS will no doubt soon find out and fix it and issue another.
I haven't noticed the update myself, but XP does it automatically anyway. Actually, that's a point - is the update for your OS? Some of them are specifically for XP, and if you haven't got XP, it probably won't work!

Yes Simon I downloaded the one for Windows Me. When I go into into help in my brouser it states I have IE6 but often when I am surfing the net I get alerts saying I am using IE4 and do I want to download IE6. Maybe my system is keeping it a secret from everybody ;D

It could be that there are still traces of IE4 on your system. Did it have IE4 on it at some point in time?
I had a similar thing with my old PC. Every time I started up, it tried to go to an IE4 tour. I eventually got rid of it by going through everything, including the registry, and deleting every trace of IE4, then reinstalled IE5.5 on top of itself, which seemed to cure it. :)
