Title: Monitor resolution problems
Post by: greenking on October 24, 2011, 18:41
Hi all,
Long time no see but when in trouble yo are still my first port of call  :-*

After many years of abuse my pc was running so poorly that the only thing left to do was reformat my drive.
Every thing was going well and many problems, (missing files and bits not recognised) have been overcome.
The last thing that has got me stumped is my monitor is showing everything very large and very poor quality. For some reason I only have the option to run as 8bit and cannot adjust the resolution.
I've tried updating the drivers but says drivers are working ok and wont accept any thet i've tried to download.
I have a Dell 2400 pc and samsung syncmaster 151s monitor

Any ideas  ???

Windows native drivers should handle the monitor, so it might be worth checking in Device Manager > Monitors to see if the screen is being properly detected. Which version of Windows are you running and what resolution are you aiming for?

OK have got it so it now actually recognises my monitor and can run in 32 bit with a higher resolution so going in the right direction,
Thanks Ric for the pointer, dont know why i didnt look there first
I knew pc-pals would help  8-)

Have you reinstalled your graphics card drivers, Graham?

Nice to see you, btw.  :)

Yes done that now Simon, I feel silly for not doing that first but after sorting all the other problems out I wasn't thinking straight.
Glad you are still about, always did love the friendliness of this forum
Amazed to see my avatar still here  ;D

I'm pleased it worked - my next suggestion was to buy a new £1000 Eizo monitor.

I'm guessing Graham's next suggestion might be painful...   ;D
