The Buzz / Derek and the Dominos drummer Jim Gordon dead at 77
« Last post by Simon on March 16, 2023, 11:15 »
Jim Gordon, the renowned session drummer who played with Derek and the Dominoes and many more, but was later jailed after murdering his mother, has died at the age of 77.

The news was confirmed in a statement from publicist Bob Merlis, who said Gordon died "after a long incarceration and lifelong battle with mental illness.”

Gordon was a member of the so-called Wrecking Crew in the 1960s, playing on dozens of hits and on albums like The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds in 1967 and the following year's Byrds album The Notorious Byrd Brothers. After touring with Delaney & Bonnie in 1970 he joined Eric Clapton – who called him "the greatest rock’n’roll drummer I have ever played with" – plus Carl Radle and Bobby Whitlock in forming Derek and the Dominoes.

The Buzz / Brian May Knighted By King Charles
« Last post by Simon on March 15, 2023, 14:01 »
Brian May was knighted by King Charles during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on March 14.

The Queen guitarist received the honor not only for his contributions to music, but also for his ongoing charity work.

The British government announced May as a recipient at the end of 2022. At that time, the rocker shared his joy in an interview with BBC News. "This is a kind of license, a kind of commission to carry on doing what I'm doing,” he explained, “and it gives me a bit more power to my elbow. So I'm very happy about that."

Following the ceremony at Buckingham Palace, May expressed appreciation that King Charles himself handled the honors.

“We’ve had various conversations over the years and I like to feel that we have a kind of friendship,” May said of his cordial relationship with the king, noting that the two have “quite a lot in common.” “I have enormous respect for him. I think he’s been through some very difficult times and always behaved with incredible grace and dignity.”

The Laughter Zone / Late again.
« Last post by Den on March 08, 2023, 21:03 »
A woman, cranky because her husband was late coming home again, decided to leave a note, saying, “I’ve had enough and have left you. Don’t bother coming after me.”

Then she hid under the bed to see his reaction.

After a short while, the husband comes home and she could hear him in the kitchen before he comes into the bedroom.

She could see him walk towards the dresser and pick up the note.

After a few minutes, he wrote something on it before picking up the phone and calling someone.

“She’s finally gone…yeah I know, about bloody time, I’m coming to see you, put on that sexy French nightie.

I love you…can’t wait to see you…we’ll do all the naughty things you like.”

He hung up, grabbed his keys and left.

She heard the car drive off as she came out from under the bed.

Seething with rage and with tears in her eyes she grabbed the note to see what he wrote…

“I can see your feet. We’re outta bread: be back in five minutes...”    :)x

Wife: how much beer do you drink?

Husband: 3 or 4 pints a day

Wife: how much does a beer cost you?

Husband: £3 a pint

Wife: how long have you been drinking?

Husband: around 42 years

Wife: 4 pints a day equals 28 pints a week which is £84 a week or £4368 a year or £183456 over 42 years. Husband: sounds correct

Wife: you realise if you had put that money in the bank in a high interest account you would have had enough money to buy an aeroplane?

Husband: do you drink beer?

Wife: no

Husband: where’s your aeroplane?   :D

The Buzz / Raquel Welch dies at 82
« Last post by Simon on February 15, 2023, 21:02 »
Hollywood actress Raquel Welch has died at the age of 82.

She "passed away peacefully early this morning after a brief illness", her management company said. She had two children - son Damon and daughter Tahnee.

Welch won a Golden Globe in 1975 for her role in The Three Musketeers. She made her initial breakthrough in 1966 in the sci-fi adventure Fantastic Voyage and prehistoric drama One Million Years BC. Despite having just a few lines of dialogue, her appearance in the latter was one of her best-known roles. Her only costume was a deer skin bikini. A publicity still of her in the two piece became a best-selling poster. In 2011, Time magazine put it at number six in the "top 10 bikinis in pop culture".

Alongside her acting career, Welch was seen as a sex symbol, with Playboy magazine calling her the "most desired woman" of the 1970s. Other screen credits in the late 1960s and early 70s included starring roles in Bedazzled, Bandolero!, 100 Rifles, Myra Breckinridge and Hannie Caulder. There were also lots of TV appearances, from 1964 and 2017, and in the early 1980s she was on Broadway, starring on the New York stage in Woman of the Year, alongside Lauren Bacall.

The Laughter Zone / The train home.
« Last post by Den on February 10, 2023, 20:51 »
After a tiring day, a commuter settled down in her seat and closed her eyes as the train rolled out of the station.

The guy sitting next to her, pulled out his mobile phone and started talking in a loud voice.

“Hi, sweetheart.  It's Eric.  I'm on the train.

Yes, I know it's the six thirty and not the four thirty, but I had a long meeting.

No, honey, not with that blonde from the accounts office. With the boss.

No sweetheart, you're the only one in my life.  Yes, I'm sure, cross my heart.”

Fifteen minutes later, he was still talking loudly.

The young woman sitting next to him had had enough and leaned over and said into the phone,

“Eric, turn that phone off and come back to bed.”

Eric doesn't use his mobile phone in public any longer.
