The latest Windows 10 upgrade appears to have reformatted my computer's hard drive. I've lost everything! Does anyone know how I can get it back?
-
Panic over. A hard reset sorted it all out.
Phew!
-
Heart beats again... ;D

For me the windows updates are worse than the viruses and malware they're supposed to help prevent.
I've never known one that made the OS run more smoothly either.
Not a big fan ;D
-
The most recent one wiped Office from my laptop but they must have issued a patch a few days later as it reappeared. ::)
-
Is it just me? The new update does not come out until Tuesday. :dunno:
-
Correct Den. But it will only stop your computer working for half an hour. ::) This is supposed to be progress.
-
I don't use Windows 10, but surely there has to be a registry hack to stop these
viruses err I mean updates from installing?
-
You can delay them, but then they just build up, a bit like constipation. There are other similarities too.
-
I'd forgotten about the Tuesday upgrade :-\ . I think I'll be using my Mint laptop until the weekend and keeping an eye open for news about when it's safe to use Windows once more.
-
Why all this fuss again about updates by Microsoft? If they did not update every one would complain.
Apple have had over 15 updates this year but thats ok. I think it's to their credit that Microsoft update on the same day each month and let you know in advance when any major updates are due. :dunno:

It would appear that some of us have suffered adverse effects after updates whereas others have not. Over the years, I’ve learnt to be wary and wait to see if updates require a patch. It’s much better than risking the loss of data.
-
I had a problem on one of the major updates (Edge would not run) and used it as a chance to upgrade to a SSD.
I have friends that have never used Windows 10 but rubbish it all the while. :dunno:

I'm quite happy to use Windows 10 although I don't trust it. It's very reliable on the whole and you can use software of a quality that just isn't available for linux. My trust issues stem from trouble after upgrades with previous versions of Windows - it's almost as if I'm waiting for Windows 10 to let me down! Furthermore, I have privacy issues; Cortana makes me very edgy (so I don't have a microphone attached to my PC) and I wonder what a company that can produce that sort of software has my computer running surreptitiously under the hood.

I don't trust Alexa or Siri either so obviously I have Cortana turned off (No microphone as I don't use Skype either). ;D
