Title: Zipped Files

Hi All,
does anyone know why my Zipped files are taking so long to send by email.
I zip them up and send by Email, but it seems they take forever to send am I doing something wrong or is this the norm?
any help would be appreciated

how large are the files? it could be that when you zipped them it did not compress them much, what tool are you using to do this?

I have winrar and aLzip, should I be compressing and email. 
I have been Zip and Email

try doing it parts, maybe the zip program is slowing it down  :dunno:

As long as you are 100% certain that the files are virus free then turning off scanning outgoing emails will speed things up.

I think iv fixed this , well iv got no alternative it seems i can only send ziped files that are upto 6MB

could that be your isp limiting the size of outgoing mails?

Hi sam
I have spoken to Virgin and they are not limiting me, I have tested my email and it would seem that my limit is 6MB to send and iv also tried on Hotmail Yahoo and GMAIL, but what I dont understand is Gmail has a limit of 20mb on attachments I sent an attachment to my self which was 14MB and it got rejected??????? strange

when they say 20mb its not totally correct
after you add headers and all the other information included in the email it always comes to less than the top limits of any service

they sometimes also block types of files, particularly zipped files....  if the material isn't sensitive then how about using some free online file storage system if you are sending it to someone?

Hi Ok,
Finally I have an answer it would appear that my maximum limit is 6MB to send an attachment any thing bigger just wont go
so thats that, cant do anything about it lol

You need something like this free program DYNUSPLIT then Kaz :

It splits the original file into bits that you can specify the size of and creates a rejoin.bat file.

Split the file and send it by email in smaller than 6mb chunks and send the rejoin.bat , tell the recipient to put all the chunks of the file and the rejoin.bat in the same folder and double click on the rejoin.bat file and it will join the file back together as it was originally  :)

That would work too, in fact I dont think youd need to split it to put it on rapidshare under 100mb  :)

yes thta right you only have to break them up if they are over 100MB, well at least I have sorted that out now, iv also sorted my Network problem out too, ill put a post in on that now
