Title: Testing with Chrome
Post by: Simon on July 02, 2011, 01:41
Following some issues with SMF 2.0 and the Chrome browser, I've been doing some testing myself.

I've reinstalled the WYSIWYG Quick Reply box (QR with smilies), and have found:

The URL pop up does not work on Chrome, using the QR box, but DOES work when using the Reply button, or the Preview button, from the QR box.

PC Pals (http://www.pc-pals.com/)

Quotes are now working in Chrome, with WYSIWYG QR box reinstalled:

Following some issues with SMF 2.0 and the Chrome browser, I've been doing some testing myself.

So, using Chrome myself, the only problem I can see is that the URL popup doesn't work when using the QR box, but by hitting Reply from posts, or Preview, from QR box, the URL popup will then work from the full post editor screen.

Are yours the same findings as mine, Gill?  Only, Clive is saying that the URL popup still doesn't work for him.

The URL popup?  I've never noticed that before.

But is it there for you now?

The URL applet is knackered for me too (FF5).  I've even edited the code by hand but it still shows a full URL rather than a word or phrase with a link attached.  I'd suggest the new WYSIWYG feature needs some work.

It does, Rod, but I've had no trouble with manual hyperlinks:

Code: [Select]
[url=http://pc-pals.com]PC Pals[/url]
produces PC Pals (http://pc-pals.com).

It's working for me now as well.  My fingers sometimes have a life of their own.

OK, until the enhanced quick reply is updated by SMF, the best I can do for Chrome is:

Quote button works fully, but only if the Quick Reply option in your Profile is set to 'Non-WYSIWYG (With BBC Buttons and Smilies)'

Hyperlink (URL) popup works on full post editor, by using Reply button, or by using Preview from the QR box.

Hyperlink (URL) popup does not currently work from QR box, but can be created manually by using the following code:

Code: [Select]
[url=http://www.pc-pals.com]PC Pals[/url]
which produces:  PC Pals (http://www.pc-pals.com)

Never heard of that one, Dave.  There are definitely some compatibility issues with Chrome, which I hope will get sorted soon.  :sigh:

Yes, everything seems to work correctly in this Iron browser.  Worth a try, Clive?  It looks exactly the same as Chrome, but seems to have a banner ad on the home page.  I haven't checked it out thoroughly, just compatibility with here.

Oi!!  It's taken years for me to change from Avant!  I can live with workarounds to the Chrome issues until they are solved.  It's worth the pain and suffering for this new look forum!

But Iron IS Chrome!  It's identical, except that it works on here!   ;)

Sorry Simon.  When I click on the link I get a popup ad which cannot be killed.  It's a different ad each time I click.  They don't deserve to have customers!

Yes, there is a popup, but I just clicked Close X in the top right hand corner, and it did.

When you click this link it should start downloading

http://www.srware.net/downloads/srware_iron.exe (http://www.srware.net/downloads/srware_iron.exe)

It is chrome without the tracking

All ext and addons are the same as chrome

If you sync your chrome before you download iron you can sync iron with the same info and it will be the same as chrome only safer

Well, I'm now a very happy bunny  :bunny-giggle: as I've just upgraded to the latest version of Sea Monkey (which I didn't know was out), and all is working, including URL popup, and the WYSIWYG Quick Reply box.   :yeaah: :yeaah: :yeaah: :yeaah: :yeaah:

Your welcome Clive

For me iron browser is faster more secure and just seems to work on more sites than Chrome

Title: Re: Testing with Chrome

Probably a linux flash bug

linux and flash dont do well together
Title: Re: Testing with Chrome
Post by: Simon on July 03, 2011, 22:38
Certainly haven't noticed that one, Dave, and I don't believe the avatars or smilies are flash.  Could it be a cache issue?  :dunno:
Title: Re: Testing with Chrome

Don't think so it was a new install of seamonkey

Thats the only browser it did it with

The avatar as well as smileys on the popup did it

Looked as if the smileys with motion were the ones blinking

I don't know then, Dave. It didn't do it with my SeaMonkey 2.0, and I've just upgraded to 2.1, which is fine too, and the WYSIWYG editor also works in it now.

I think the smiley popup is a Java script.  Could it be that?
Title: Re: Testing with Chrome
Post by: davy51 on July 04, 2011, 15:28
Its possible I just installed seamonkey to check it on the forum here

Java could have been messed up in it

All the other browsers I use are doing fine

Probably a linux flash bug

I've not had much of an issue with flash in quite some time - occasionally I have issues with audio, but not very often.

I've just been tinkering, Clive.  I suspect we still have plenty for Sam to do.  ;)

After all your tinkering tell me where I need to fix things.

Sounds as if *reading above* we have a plan for now, but likely we have to wait until SMF fixes a few bugs.

BTW I really don't like that the quote button now just goes to the quick reply - I don't like using it. I might just disable quick reply (for me) and see if that fixes my problem with this.

Post by: Simon on July 05, 2011, 12:42
Yes, it should do.

I think it's just the URL popup and the Newsfader in IE, on this theme, that are the remaining issues.  It's not that the URL popup doesn't work, it just doesn't work as we'd like.

Oh, and getting the 'active' highlight on all of the top menu buttons, but that's not essential.
