Title: GAME INSTALLATION HELP
Post by: Camstop on January 28, 2003, 13:03
After installing nascar thunder 2003, when i try to play the game i get a error message (cannot locate the cd-rom).
I am having this problem with other games also.
my setup is athlon 1400, 256ddr ram, win98se, cd-rw, dvd-rom and my h-disk is into 2 using f-disk.
In the help file with the game, it asks to make sure that your cd is assigned to E and your dvd is F if you have say two h-drives, and i have done that.
i also think that my drivers are up to date and have direct x 8.1.
I think this may be a simple problem but i'm not experienced in installing games.
thanks for any help.

Did it play ok on the initial installation Camstop? Is it only when you want to play it again or resume a game that it is having problems?Have you enough spare capacity on your C drive to allow the game to run?
I assume that you have tried the game cd in both your cd rom and dvd rom drives and still get the same result  ???

it seemed to install ok but at the end of the installation and i want to play a game it asks for me to put disc 2 in then a warning box pops up ( cannot locate the cd-rom ) please insert disc 2 and start application. this just repeats.

yes i still have about 2.5gb free on c drive and i have tried it in the dvd drive and both at the same time but still wont play.

If you hadnt said you had problems with the other games I would have said you had a fault on disc 2 but its unlikely that all the discs for the others are similarly damaged or faulty.
I am not a big game player, the few I have usually install on the first CD then require it or a second to play the game so I still think its a possible CD fault but more unlikely if its affecting different games.
Can you explore the CD its asking for in either drive without actually starting to load the game and see if it can read the CD at all  ???

In the help file with the game, it asks to make sure that your cd is assigned to E and your dvd is F if you have say two h-drives, and i have done that.

Camstop, can you clarify the above?  Have you changed the drive letters from what they originally were?  It's just that the error message seems to indicate the game cannot detect the CD-ROM, and if you've changed the drive letter, I wonder if that could be something to do with it?

Of course, I could be totally wrong!   ::)

Good try Simon but I dont think its that as he has two partitions on his hard drive which will be C and D leaving E and F for his CD rom and his DVD rom  ???
