My favourite is Holly Valance - not sure why :o: but I don't think she is going to win. My money is on that Chelsea girl. I reckon Audley or Nancy will get the order of the boot this week.
-
Are we going to have a poll? :)x
-
I don't think that many people are interested!
-
You are so right. :)
-
;D
-
We go dancing most weeks so it's nice to sit back and watch others perform. We are a bit like Waldorf and Statler. :)x
-
Well, one of you is. ;D

Strictly Come Dancing is about the only must-see programme on telly right now, as far as I'm concerned. Oh, and HIGNFY... and Nigel Slater's Simple Cooking... and I quite like ridiculous Downton Abbey... and that Stephen Hawking programme isn't bad either... actually, the TV license is earning its keep in our household right now :) .
I've no idea who's going to win Strictly, though. I'd like it to be Jason Donovan but Holly Valance wouldn't upset me. I hope it isn't Chelsea Dagger - she's as irritating as a gnat bite on the bum.
-
I've recorded the recent Stephen Fry series on words and language, as I thought that might be quite interesting (no pun intended).
-
It is. Quite thought provoking on a wide range of issues.
-
I also like HIGNFY but Downton Abbey is too dreary for my liking and I've given it up. Mrs Clive is still watching it but complains bitterly after each episode.
-
This series of Downton Abbey is nowhere near as good as the first series. The plots are ludicrous.
-
After watching last night's show I'm hoping Nancy will go. Her rumba was absolutely dreadful! One issue I have is contestants had to dance the tango to a cha cha beat. Call me old fashioned but they are two very different dances and it must make it very difficult for them. I was appalled at that footballer clutching his crotch all the time. It is after all a family show. Complaints have been sent to the BBC.
-
Why on earth would they make them dance a tango to a cha cha, Clive?
-
I have no idea - it was utterly ridiculous. :dunno:
-
Perhaps they should rename it Strictly come prancing?
-
You should have some welcome news later tonight, Clive; if preliminary reports are correct, Nancy has been voted off at last. Unfortunately, she will continue to be eligible to participate in next year's show because she still has no experience of ballroom dancing.
The music for Strictly has never been played at the proper tempo for the dances. It's more noticeable with dances such as the paso doble and the tango, but it happens with all of them to a lesser or greater degree. That wouldn't happen if it was a proper dance competition. There again, you wouldn't get Alesha Dixon on the judges panel scoring a ten when Len Goodman is only scoring a seven. If Miss Dixon were to fall under a bus tomorrow, I certainly wouldn't grieve.
Oh, and I agree with what has been said about Robbie Savage - very tacky.
-
I sometimes think that Alesha Dixon is watching a different contest to the one I am looking at! The only good judge is Craig but I do accept that the entertainment value of Bruno and Len is the attraction for many people. Arlene was much more of a purist and I would welcome her back anytime. I hope the rumours are correct Gill. 8-)
-
Justice prevailed last night and Nancy was kicked off. Watch out next week Audley, we are coming to get you.
-
:sadgit:
-
Seconded. ;D

Your complaint has been heard, Clive.

Yes, the reply I received was as follows:
Dear Mr *****
Reference CAS-1076426-K4VV6F
Thanks for contacting us. We're sorry you were offended by Robbie Savage's dance routine on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. Robbie danced a Paso Doble to Michael Jackson's ‘Bad’ on Saturday's show and the choreography emulated some of Michael's most famous dance moves. ‘Strictly’ is a live entertainment show and with it being the Halloween Special, Robbie wanted to pull out all the stops. We’d like to assure you that we've registered your complaint on our audience log. This is an internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily and is available for viewing by all our staff. This includes the programme makers, along with our senior management. It ensures that your points, along with all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC. Thank you for taking the time to contact us. www.bbc.co.uk/complaints NB This is sent from an outgoing account only which is not monitored. You cannot reply to this email address but if necessary please contact us via our webform quoting any case number we provided.

He must have prepared that in advance. ;D
-
I've complained to the BBC before but they don't listen. My complaint was about a 'comedy' programme being broadcast on Radio 4 on a Sunday lunchtime which was attempting to make jokes about semen. It quite put the whole family off our lunch but the BBC disagreed that the subject was unsuitable for a broadcast at that time of day.
The BBC is so incredibly arrogant that complaining to them is pointless. I wish there was an alternative.
-
On the complaints page they now have a shorter version of the reply they sent to me. http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/content/response/scd_robbiesavage_jmf
However, this is completely different to what was on the page when I initially made my complaint! They were completely dismissive and refused to see anything wrong with it. Public opinion appears to have made them change their tune.
-
Strictlygate! ;D
-
:haha:

I couldn't agree more, Gill, Auntie always knows best. >:(
-
There is an alternative. Don't watch. ;)
-
I find I rarely do these days.
-
I rarely have time.
-
One day, when you retire, you'll have about 40 years of TV to catch up on. ;D
-
;D
-
It's not as simple as saying the solution is not to watch. The rest of the programme is wholesome family entertainment and a lot of people find it very enjoyable. It's wrong that the antics of one contestant should spoil the programme, especially when it is being broadcast at a time when you would expect families to to be viewing. People should be able to feel that whatever they watch at that time of night will be suitable for family viewing. What is the alternative? That we should avoid all television broadcasting if don't want to risk seeing filth?
ITV was recently rebuked for having acts on its talent shows which were too sexually overt and the BBC needs to accept that it has also made a mistake.
-
I suspect I'll be long dead before that happens, Gill.
-
The point is that if a member of the public committed such a lewd act in the street they would expect to be arrested. However it seems that doing it in front of 10 million viewers during the early evening is perfectly acceptable in the eyes of the BBC. It's just plain wrong.
-
Michael Jackson got away with it. :o:
-
Before the watershed? Did he really?
-
I'm sure he was on Top Of The Pops doing his stuff.
-
I suspect less offensive videos would have been available for pre-watershed programmes such as TOTP. Had it been otherwise, the National Viewers Council would have been up in arms.
Anyway, it doesn't matter if the standards were different in those days from what they are now; Robbie Savage's behaviour was not acceptable on last Saturday's pre-watershed programme.
-
I didn't see it, so I can't really comment, but it does make me wonder if the BBC put these things out deliberately, to see how much attention they can get. I bet the show has escalated viewing figures next week.
-
I wouldn't count on that Simon. It's hardly family viewing any more!
-
After much deliberation in the Clive household, it's goodbye Audley. And Lulu had better start to pack her bags for next week when it will be her turn to leave. :D
-
I shall have to mount a 'Save Lulu' campaign. ;D
-
I had to read that twice!
-
To make it easier:
I shall have to mount a 'Save Lulu' campaign. ;D
I shall have to mount a 'Save Lulu' campaign. ;D
-
Too late, Rik!
;D
-
Thanks Rik. Failed again in my prediction! Lulu went out a week early. ::) But it's bound to be Audley next week. (again.) :D
-
 ;)
-
I predict that either Robbie or Anita will leave next week. :D
-
I predict I will continue to nicely miss it.
-
;D ;D ;D
-
Is "Strictly" another one of those TV 'talent' shows? :dunno:
-
It's probably better than the X Factor which is totally devoid of talent.
-
something else I avoid
-
actually my mother has asked me to go on amazon and purchase a ballroom dance instructional dvd for my sister - Clive any thoughts?
-
There are lots out there and I can only tell you the name of the ones I have myself. I'll tell you when I return home this morning.
-
The ones I have are by Ian and Ruth Walker www.instep.uk.com They are good teachers and are easy to follow. However, she would find it far easier to learn if she joined a local dance class. It's much more fun learning with others. :D
-
I'd echo Clive's thoughts, Sam. Ultimately, you need a teacher who can watch you to see what you're doing right and wrong.
-
... and not laugh. ;D
-
Trust me, the dead-pan face is the first lesson you're taught as a dance teacher. ;)
-
Even when they go arse over tit?
-
Behave Simon. We are talking about dance lessons! ::)
-
;D

Even when they go arse over tit?
Especially. ;D
