The next version of Windows 10 looks set to shake things up in the way people switch between devices, and now, reportedly, has a name: Spring Creators Update. With Windows 10 being the “final” version of Windows, updates like this are essentially the new versions, with the recent Creators Update, and then the Fall (autumn) Creators Update each bringing big new features and revisions. So what does the next version of Windows 10 have in store?

Yet another worrying time for all of us. ::) I'm quite happy with the way it is now.
-
Will Cortana have the Alexa creepy laugh? Gotta be able to keep up to date with all the different OSs.

Who uses Cortana? :dunno:

Exactly!

The thought of giving Micro$oft access to my spoken word fills me with horror.

They and others already have it i'm sure.
Last year I did an experiment saying the same phrase over and over again in front of my laptop, in this case "fly fishing" (which i'm not remotely interested in and have never purchased anything to do with fishing). Sure enough within a few hours I was getting targetted adverts for fishing rods and the like. :woot:
-
My tablets are not kept in the living room and I don't have microphones attached to my computers. None of my tablets have the microphone enabled (although I do understand this permission can be overridden).
I've heard stories like yours too many times before, Dave.

I thought you were going to say J R Hartley knocked on your door. ;D
With any luck, these Spring updates will actually wait until Spring, and then they will never bloody happen. >:(

:pmsl: More snow on the way! My three year old grandson used Alexa to order something for an online game but fortunately didn't have the password for payment.

Oh bu88er. Whilst following the advice given on Simon's link I accidentally clicked on Install Updates. Who knows what the future holds now?
-
I've delayed mine by two months (I think).

-
Windows have just downloaded the normal monthly updates and NOT the Spring update. :dunno:
Now this makes sense after all :D

Interesting, Den. Nevertheless, I've still had to uninstall Candy Crush Saga and several other children's games yet again. It's annoying.
-
I think I've delayed the Feature Updates by 6 months (180 days), and the "Quality" updates by 30 days.

Who could have ever foreseen that :D
-
Indeed, it's an amazing coincidence. :o:
-
I wonder if anyone has undertaken a correlation between Windows Updates and heart attacks? There's a PhD in this for someone. ;D
-
-
The Windows 10 April update is released on Monday April the 30th 2018. ;D
-
That will be a test for my delayed download. I have a feeling I might have undone it by mistake and you only get one attempt to delay an update. ::)
-
It will most likely take a few days to roll out so don't panic yet. :D
-
Me panic? :nerves:
-
"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
And my computer too, I hope.
Oh, I love the Dune novels 📖 🙂.
-
Love it Gill! :thumb:
-
Just updated my main computer "WOW" But then again I love change and improvements. ;D
-
Mine seems to have behaved itself for the most part tonight, so hopefully my delay setting has worked. :)
-
The changes seem really good indeed. Just a gentle learning curve. 8-)
-
Mine went into a "critical crash" this morning and had to be restarted after it sent lots of data to Microsoft. Presumably blocking the update has worked. :thumb:
-
But now they know what you've done! :nerves:
-
I'm using a tablet. The PC isn't being switched on for at least another 48 hours. By then, enough time should have elapsed for the major defects to have come to light.

and this is supposedly progress :ack:
i've jumped through hoops to keep MrsDaveeb's win 10 pc update free, but despite my best efforts it looks like it started last night....She was alerted to the fact that something was happening because her wifi got turned off by windows >:( >:( and sure enough there's a mile long queue of stuff that WILL install whether she likes it or not.
-
I think I'll just turn my Windows 10 laptop on, leave it in a cupboard for 48 hours, and just let it get on with it. :bawl:
-
No more mishaps with mine. And no updates. :thumb: Mrs Clive is delighted that I've connected her iPad to the printer network and it now prints out both sides of a sheet of paper. Not quite sure I deserve the credit but I will gladly accept it. ;D
-
Take it while you can get it! ;D
-
It won't last long. ;D
-
Right now I am updating my laptop, will report back later. :D
-
For you Den, there may be no later.
-
Do you know something that I'm not aware of Clive? 77% installed and counting. :D
-
That's probably as far as it gets Den. They usually blow up at 80%.
-
Completed
-
Phew! I'll bet that's a relief. ;D
-
Never doubted it. 8-)
-
Is it just me? The April update loaded onto my two computers and are superb. Task View is such a good addition and the whole update runs so well. ;D
-
I'm sure there is a built in time delay before your computer goes into meltdown Den.
-
They are running very smoothly at the moment, well pleased. ;D
-
;D
