Title: empty windows
Post by: Barra on November 05, 2002, 20:23
If I click on control panel, window open and it shows at bottom the numbers of objects but nothing is showing. The same if i click on my computer, window opens fine, but if I click on "c", I get an empty window again. Drive "d" is not a problem. I'm running ME. This happened after installing norton 2003, then deletingit again as it was only a beta version and couldn't update viruses.

I have also used second chance to go back to this morning bootup, but this didn't work:(

Edited to add this pic of the problem  :-*

Since discovered that smilies don't work on here or ispr, and some links on here do not work eg, "go" button next to small window at bottom of threads. Also on ispr, where it has your name and if you have any pms, I have >>

Barra, just a thought, are you using TweakUI, you could check the settings on there and see if anything shows up, ie is the drive hidden - a long shot

Have you tried repairing IE, I've done that when I've had problems with Explorer and its cured them

on Win98 its in: Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Info  click the Tools tab and you'll find Repair Explorer

there maybe some problems finding some the icons.  If you go to Control Panel > Folder Options > File types and have a browse, u might find your problem.

Corky

Maybe bats idea will fix it first tho :)

Tried Bats idea but only got a blank help and support page, and corky, theres nothing to click on in control panel as shown above so that rules that out I'm afraid

No I can't! even with start, settings control panel etc. The end result is an empty window.
Bat, reinstalling windows is a LAST resort. I put in more windows than an "Everest" worker

I'm running 5.5 at the moment. I tried it off cd but it wouldn't as files on pc were more up to date. I don't want to go down the ie6 route as I've never liked it

Barra, if you are running win Me can you not do system restore, that would bring your control panel back.  :)

That's weird Sandra. I have used system restore since I downloaded IE6 and it worked. Sometimes it is disabled at startup and you have to goto msconfig to put it back.

SORTED!!!!
Found ie5.setup.exe on Ddrive. When I used that instead of version on CD, it let me overwrite all but one of the files in boldprint.
Learning more and more with each passing day! ::)

Its amazing how these silly problems make you so determined to sort them. They make you so angry and annoyed, and determined not to be beaten by them. Well that's how it works for me, but then there's always the hammer ;)

Can anyone explain why,if it was an IE fault, the stuff on drive D worked ok  ???
Shouldnt an IE problem affecting the boot drive also have a similar efect on the second drive  :-";"xx

Could it be that IE is a separate installation on D: Drive?
Title: Re:empty windows
Post by: bat69 on November 06, 2002, 14:43
Well I've found IE defies all logic when it comes to creating problems, I've had so many problems with IE and Explorer, and something that seems detached from the problem solves it. Either that or I'm fik ::)

Do you think maybe it's IE that's causing all my cutoff problems  ??? ??? ???
