Title: Hard drive size - false

Hello Pals,

Nearly a month ago I bought a Fujitsu Siemens V5535 laptop. According to the info in the shop, and on the box it came in, the HDD is 250GB, but according to properties there are 209GB free of 230GB. Now, I don't think that an extra 20GB has been used up somewhere?

It came with Vista basic and Office 2007 installed. 

I don't think I'm missing anything here apart from 20GB, right?

What do you reckon. Take it back?

It's probably where a backup Vista installation has been partitioned away on the drive, John, so that you can restore things to the factory settings with a backup CD.

A 250gig hard drive will only have around 230 gb afer formatting, manufacturers show 1,000 mb as 1 gb whereas in reality its 1,024 mb per gb.

By the time you have a full installation of Vista and Office, swap file enabled and system restore enabled plus the other bits and pieces that windows use as standard then that would use your other 20 gig or so.
