A friend rang me this evening to see if I knew why AVG was saying there was a virus when he tried to run Spotify.
He couldnt stop it popping up when he opened Spotify or played a new track even when clicking Ignore or Add to Exceptions.
I tried it on mine and it was doing the same thing.
To add it to the exceptions, Spotify have said that its definately not a virus, you need to add it to the exceptions in the AVG User Interfaceby right clicking on AVG and selecting Open AVG User Interface, then double left click on Resident Shield and left click on the Manage Exceptions button at the bottom left of the page.
Click on Add Path on the right side of the new window and browse for C/Program Files/Spotify
Tick the box and click Apply and that should fix it.

I've not known anyone else to have this problem, new configuration issue with AVG perhaps?
-
It only seems to have been doing it since the latest definition updates from the last couple of days Sam. Lots of posts about it on the net.
-
I had exactly the same problem more than a year ago Sandra. I thought that I had downloaded Spotify from a rogue site and decided to uninstall it. I've since dumped AVG too. :)
-
good call on the later.... but I guess you haven't dumped it for Linux...

Just posted a new problem AVG 9.0. Used to use AVG 8.5 without problem.
AVG 9.0 has major problems. Solved mine with MSE. ::)
-
AVG is having a bad run at the moment.
-
Yes Simon AVG 9.0 is not fit for use.
Just search and take a look. I would recommend MSE.
Yes microsoft is better. AVG 8.5 Great 9.0 not fit for use.
-
MSE seems to have a good reputation. Oh well, it's about time MS has something good to offer! ;D
-
Their previous attempts at security have been a little half baked, but MSE seems to tick all the boxes.
-
Simon will give MSE 9/10 .
-
Found problems that AVG and avira missed.
-
It's a shame that AVG 9.0 is so bad with magazines falling over to give it a number one review.

I finally dumped AVG last year after suffering a number of FPs. This year it's Kaspersky IS 2010 (3 licences), but so far that's also proving to be something of a turkey.
So, today I was tempted to take up Giveawayoftheday.com (http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/)'s generous offer of Online Armor++ However, it seems a DDoS attack has blown them out of the water. Life's a botch. :(
-
I've had no problems with F-Secure Internet Security 2010. Good value for a 3 machine licence too. :thumb:
-
Woohoooo! The Online Armor site's now online again and I'm downloading as we speak. Have a play Simon. Unused licences are good for 30 days before they're disabled.
-
I dropped avg and went to avast it did much better
Then used comodo security suit it is fantastic
Rodders I got Online Armor++ today and have run tests on it by going to sites I know are infected and it did great caught all of it

Thanks, Rod, but for the sake of curiosity, I don't really want to uninstall F-Secure (and I would have to), as it's a bit of a faff changing security suites, and it would mean getting all the updates again when I reinstall it. Perhaps when my licence renewal is due, in May, I'll have a look at alternatives. :)
-
I'm the same, Simon, NOD's good for me, and experimenting with AV is a hassle.
-
It is, especially when they leave a trail of garbage when you uninstall them again.
-
Indeed, and so many do.
-
Congrats on the 11,000! :woot:
-
Thanks. Time flies, eh. :)
-
Indeed it does. Too bloody quickly. :(
-
Look upon it as more happy memories laid down. :)
-
Happy? Oh yes, I remember that!
-
Me too... just. ;D
-
You've got farther back to remember than me.
-
I practice a lot... ;)
