Post by: sam on June 02, 2005, 16:29
If anyone is having problems with loging in since we have moved then please follow the steps for a forgotten password. If that does not work then please contact us at: admin@pc-pals.com or contact me at krioma@gmail.com (if all else fails!)

Hi DB, nice to see you again!  :thumb:

I'm not sure you can actually get into your profile without first logging in - are you sure that's what you did?  :?

Yeah, we've had a few problems with some people's passwords, but some have been fine, and logged in straight away.  At least you're here now!  :)

Hi Davy, have you tried clearing the cache and cookies in all your browsers?  You'll also need to set any browser you wish to use with PC Pals to accept the cookie, in order to stay logged in.

Let us know if you've done that, and are still having problems.  :)

Sometimes it recognises my log-in details, sometimes it doesn't.  I'm bewildered (as ever).  By the way, I like the new layout :D .

as an interesting test could you follow the password forgotten bit for me, you should get a password reset link and a new password (you can change back afterwards). This should solve any problems, if not just say.

the only way I can log in is if I click on memberlist.

I can't logon using my password. :?:

Post by: sam on June 04, 2005, 00:58
surely you have to type your password in somewhere? did you clear all the cookies etc and follow the pasword reactivation procedure?
Title: Log In Problems
Post by: Lona on June 04, 2005, 01:16
yes I cleared all cookies and still could only logon using memberlist but got it sorted when Sandra changed my password.

Can logon now using password.
Title: Log In Problems
Post by: sam on June 04, 2005, 01:17
thats rather odd...memberlist just does exactly the same when you are login in, only thing i can think off is your browser saved the code for that page alone.

Hi Davy,

A few people have had this problem.  One solution has been to clear your browser cache and cookies, and allow the site to set and store a new cookie.  Let us know if that works, or not.

do you see any yellow icons on the main index page that would indicate that there are new posts in a particular forum. do you manage to login first time or does it take more that one attempt?

very odd - so you now have the yellow icons and view since last visit working? Maybe it just took that long for the cookies to refresh?  :?

If it doesnt stay working it might be worthwhile testing it on firefox or something similar if you have access to it.

interesting though.

umm maybe it could be opera, but it shouldnt be browser dependent. eitherway at least the most important part of it is working - odd that.

ok so the (in case we arent thinking of the same thing):

doesnt become:

or is it that this:

doesnt appear? or both even! :-)

- well if it doesnt at least it works.

Oh as for your opera beta - might be worth the update as you could be missing out on some important security updates.

But here still, when you go to the page of the new post itself, you can't know which one was added there, (the colour doesn't change). While the number of "Views" remains only " 1 " (one).
Title: Log In Problems
Post by: sam on June 09, 2005, 16:02
joudi you have lost me there! sorry.

do you mean the colour of the newest posts dont change for you? it should and does (for some of us at the least!). the number will not change (well will increase) until you log out as it is based on your session id (I think!)
Title: Log In Problems
Post by: Simon on June 09, 2005, 18:10
Yes, the new posts function only works perfectly, when you first log in, or if you restart your browser, but are kept logged in by the cookie.  It does work in the same session, but even though it displays new posts exist, it will still go to the newest post as it was at the start of the session, if that makes any sense.  It really isn't a good system, but it's the only one we've got, so it's a question of getting used to it, unless Sam decides he wants to rebuild the new posts function.  :ooo:

It does seem as though everyone is gradually getting things working, and most of the issues have been browser based.

just so you know .....

I was trying to log in on this old piece of poo computer ..... and....

I forgot my password cos I'd saved it on the other computer  :?  and not changed it, so I requested another, and then I hit enter to view a post and I got in anyway ?
Title: Log In Problems
Post by: Simon on June 09, 2005, 21:39
Well, these password oddities get stranger and stranger.  I suppose, as long as you can't log in as someone else, it's not too much to worry about.  I'm sure it's because browsers are getting confused between the two sites, but I can't explain why.
Title: Log In Problems

i tried what you did on a machine that knew no passwords - no odities - so dont worry about security :-) thanks for saying though.

Ok, I'll try to make things clearer:

When there's a certain thread which I read all its' posts, and I leave that thread (or close Pals), and come back to see if there's any post added to the same thread. Well, I see that there were new posts added.

In that case, when I go to see the new posts in it, I like to know which posts were not read by me yet.

In the forum before, it used to show the posts which I didn't read (the new ones to me), in different colour. Now, I have to search which was the last post which I read my first time before leaving.

I hope it's clearer now.    :)

On the other hand, It would be interesting to click on the "Index Page", on the new post, to take us directly to the last post in the thread which we want to see (better than to take us to the first post of that thread which will need to clic again to enable us to arrive, at last to the las post, if that thread makes many pages.)     :)

Thanks Sam...

Joudi, which link are you clicking to see the latest post in your favourite thread?  You need to click the orange arrow, next to the topic title ((https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpc-pals.com%2Fforum%2Ftemplates%2FAvalanche%2Fimages%2Ficon_newest_reply.gif&hash=c1776c6308911a94d20dc9d74ade09a88a9d8c07)) to see the newest unread post.  Is that what you have been doing?  You need to click the actual arrow - not the topic title.

or if you click the blue arrow ((https://www.pc-pals.com/forum/templates/Avalanche/images/icon_latest_reply.gif))   underneath the time of the last post on the right hand side this takes you to the last post

Just for the record, I'm currently very poorly and have been spending some time with my very understanding new girlfriend who has a house out in the sticks and a couple of stripey pals.
