Title: Is it possible to.....
Post by: Jaminxz on April 01, 2004, 22:16
Right it sounded weired to me, so nobody laugh  :-[

But i heard off somebody it's possible to play ps2 on yourpc monitor through a tv out card,is this true??

Also, how do you get tv through a tv out card??

Woudlnt have thought you could do that as how would the PS2 connect to the pc in the first place and what would be the point ?
The TV out is usually to connect your pc to a TV via an S-Vid connector or a comp video connection so you can watch films from dvds etc on your tv screen  :)

The only way it could be done is if you connect the PS2 "composite" connection (yellow RCA jack) to a TV-IN connection on a TV capture card (some gfx cards have it).

What you would be better doing however is downloading a PS/2 EMULATOR and playing the games from the PC instead of through it.

Do ps2 emulators exist?

wouldn't you want to play your ps2 on the tv being bigger than your monitor? Why the hell would you want to use your monitor?

But there are tv-in jacks you can get with specific tv cards, and some video cards come with tv-in.

And yes there are ps2 emulators, do a google search.

I checked the emulator out, it isn't really an emulator,i don't think. If anybody understamds the following, please let me know!!!

PCSX2 - A PS2 EMU
------------------
Here it is. A first try for an ps2 emulator...
Of course it isn't very advance now but there are some stuff here...

Overview
--------
Well i will try to catch up some questions.
First of all pcsx2 don't run Ps2 games yet!
And of course it is far from doing this.
So pcsx2 don't run GT3, get it? :)
So what pcsx2 is? pcsx2 is a try to emulate sony's beast.
Of course it isn't so easy as it might seems.
So far you can consider pcsx2 as a develop tool althought
i suggest don't use pcsx2 as a tool for writing your ps2dev
stuff :). Consider the opinion that pcsx2 have bugs and we
wrote this emu by reverse enginnering ps2 demos that might
have bugs too :)
Hope you enjoy pcsx2..

The Pcsx2 team..

Configuration
-------------

Cpu Options:

Misc Options:

 * Enable Console Output:
    Displays the psx text output.

 * Enable patches
Enable the patches for games.(if they exist).
Might fix some stuff might screw some stuff.
Enable it at your own risk.

 * Enable pad hack.
if your pads doesn't seem to work if you enable that much fix the pads for the specific game.
Warning!! not leave that option checked might broke some other games as well

Recompiler options:

*  Disable Recompiler (default). It will run with interpreter if it is ON.
   Slower but more compatible.

*  Disable Vu recompiler (default). Will disable the vu recompile
(of course if recompile mode is used). More compatible recompiler but slower.

 * Enable reg caching (disabled in 0.6)
Enable the reg caching recompiler (you must have enable interpeter cpu off!)
It is more faster than the default recompiler

Quick Keys:
 F1: Save state
 F2: Change slot (0-5)
 F3: Load State
 F8: Makes a Snapshot

 (debugger keys)
----------------
 F11  un/sets Log
 F12 un/sets symbol logging

Status
------

Most part of ps2 have been emulate.

Things that are still missing or uncomplete

IPU : decoding almost done. Pcsx2 can play *.ipu or *.m2v files but no pss yet
VU  : there are several issues with graphics ingames. Still we are not sure if it is GS, VIF or VU problems
but we are looking for it
SPU2: no spu2 plugin that works atm.
Pads: most of the times works okay.
Memcards: nasty work since they have some kind of encryption . we are looking for them..
recompiler: planning for fast reg cache core and recompile of vus . Soon :P

and of course a million other bugs that exists and we hope they will be fixed ;0

well i guess thats me forgetting im in the US and yall are in the UK. I guess if i had to pay for tv i would be figuring out ways around the rules too.

I thought they could only scan to see if your tv was watching a specific channel, not if it was on at all. I mean if you weren't watching tv or "using the queens radio waves" you would be able to use your tv legally.

Do they make TVs that have been gutted to be used for consoles or strickly for vcrs. I mean take the receiver out or make a attachable receiver card of some sort, i guess im thinking of some sort of monitor with a addon to make it a fully functional tv.

Do yall half to pay to listen to radios?

I think they pick up on the reflected RF from the TV set itself Bob.
Thats how they can tell which channel you are watching as it sends a signal back out, unless you could shield the whole set somehow, maybe by building a faraday cage around it would make it invisible to the detectors  :)

i still say you could go buy a video card with video in and use the RCA inputs to plug in you playstation, that way you could avoid thoughs peskey tv police.

and if you cant find a video card with RCA in use this

http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/product.asp?dept%5Fid=124&pid=6553&sid=GGG9VPCB0MJQ9N6CQ0HB236BLS7PE6K0

rca to svideo cord adapter. You can use your regular playstation rca cords to plug into a svideo input on your vid card.

Just in case you dont know what RCA plugs are, they are called PHONO plugs here in the UK  ;)

Evertime i see you post here im reminded of what an amazing mix of hottie and tech you bring to board.

Thanks for educating me on the United Kingdom wording for the RCA adapters Sandra ;)

Thanks Bob  :-*

I must admit though that I had to ask what RCA plugs were some years back  ;)

Another example of "Our two nations seperated by a common language"  Bob  ;)

I think these leads to different things to what i'm onabout.

I want to watch television channels on my pc monitor by plugging an ariel into the pc, and also play ps2 on the pc monitor.

I need to do all of this whilst not having a television box set at all.

Is it possible?

(If it's what you previously explained, then this is just me being dumb!)
Title: Re:Is it possible to.....
Post by: Reno on April 11, 2004, 21:58
from the way i think sandra's explained it, they can find out if your watching tv by scaning for RF signals reflected off your your tv or tv-card, so theres no easy way to watch tv without them knowing about it.

As for playing playstation on the pc, get a video card with S-video in and a "PHONO plug" adapter and you can play playstation on your pc monitor.

i know its not everything you wanted but its a partial solution to your question

There might be a third option if your really wanting to play playstation without a license. Playstation makes monitors for their consoles, i think its so u can play in the car or something, but it probably would be something worth looking into
Title: Re:Is it possible to.....
Post by: Sandra on April 11, 2004, 22:19
Actually, now that I understand what you are trying to do then you could do as Bob suggests ,if you just wanted to use the PC monitor for playing your PS2 and using with your PC.
If you are hoping to get away with watching TV on your PC to evade the TV licensing fee then you could do that with a TV PCI card, Aldi had some nice ones in stock a couple of weeks back for around £25 but they have probably all gone now, but there are various ones available from less than that to as much as you want to pay up to.
The Aldi card actually had Svid in as well as aerial(antenna for you Bob  ;) ) coax in.
You would still legally require a TV licence to watch TV in this way and I believe that the RF signal being reflected, back out along the coax according to Scrumpy Jack, would be detectable by the nasty TV licence detector people  :(

As far as I know though, the people who come to check to see if you have a licence or a TV receiver in operation have no right of entry unless you invite them in, so you can just say "no I havent got a tv or anything capable of receiving it and you cant come in" and they cant do anything about it as theyhave to visually confirm that the equipment is actually in an unlicensed premises and is being used  :)

Dont take my word as 100% accurate on that but I have heard a lot of discussions about it over the last couple of years on the radio and thats always being said  :)
Title: Re:Is it possible to.....
Post by: Jaminxz on April 14, 2004, 21:14
i think i get it.

At present i have an Nvidia Geforce4mx integrated cpu , what would i need as well as this just the pci card? would i plug an ariel into this??

is this easy to install?
Title: Re:Is it possible to.....
Post by: Sandra on April 14, 2004, 21:39
As long as there is a spare PCI slot you just insert the card and load the drivers and software that would hopefully come with it and then plug the aerial lead into it.
The software should tune the TV channels in for you and you should be able to do as Bob said and use Svid from the PS2 to the Svid in as long as the TV PCI card you get has Svid in or if you have an earial lead out of your PS2 you could use an aerial splitter to connect them both to your PC at once  :)

Sorry to burst your bubble Jam, but you need a TV licence for a TV card in a PC too  >:(
