Well guys I need your help ::) after receiving a trojan recently and AVG would'nt update to clear it completely, I took the step of deleting AVG & Zona Alarm completely and installing Nortons 2003. The problem now is, when I start up the PC or reboot the firewall is automatically disabled :-\ I have ensured it is enabled correctly yet it still disabled on start up. Constructive advice is appreciated :)

Have you tried running both Norton's and Ad-Aware in safe mode with system restore disabled Serenity?

Does anyone know if Kazzaa messes up firewalls like it does with PCs ???

Have you tried running Live Update, Bev? (Right click the firewall icon by your clock - the blue / green globe). You sometimes need to do this several times after a first installation. Also, have you received any error messages, and what does the status window say when you open the firewall? (Double click icon by clock).

Anyone who uses Kazaa/Kazaa Lite, might as well shut down their firewall, anti-virus etc. as they offer no protection. I stopped using Kazaa a couple of years ago for that very reason. I have had a home internet connection since I returned from my adventures in 1999 and have never had a single virus. However, every time I used Kazaa, some trojan called Optix Pro would attack my PC, closing down the firewall (then Black Ice Defender) anti virus (then Norton) and neither of them could be re-enabled. Any attempts to remove the trojan using removal tools would fail as it would close them down before they had even finished the search. Until I learned how to manually remove it from the registry in Safe Mode, a full format was the only solution.
If you must download MP3s etc. try WinMX. It's slow, but safe.

I have tried to get her to stop using it for almost 2 years Dave but shes addicted for some reason :(
Also says WinMx doesnt seem to work for her but your Sharons installed it this aft and is happy with it, without having to ask how to set it up and shes a blonde too ???

I've been using WinMX for years, and yes it can be slow, but it's spyware free, and I've never had a virus from it.
Does anyone know a good, preferably free, trojan scanner / remover? I have been using Anti-Trojan, but the project has been discontinued, so there are no further updates. The substitute they recommend, A2, apparently isn't all that.

I cant understand these comments about Norton Anti Virus not working when you use Kazaa or Kazaa Lite. Whilst I do not like Kazaa, I have been using Kazaa Lite for a few years, and my Norton Anti Virus and Firewalls have never been affected. I have used nearly every Anti Virus and Firewall out there for testing purposes, and all have stopped and cleared viruses while downloading from Kazaa Lite. If you dont want Kazaa Lite, try Ares. Ares is fast and spyeware free, although the availability is not huge yet , it is growing fast.

The problem is not with either Norton or the Kazaa software itself. Delgado, it is the way some human-like animals manipulate it.
Kazaa could best be described as "the womb of all viruses". Low lifes (those with nothing better to do than create human misery) use Kazaa to get their creations onto our computers. It is these creations that cause the problems, Kazaa is merely the favoured means of delivery.

Not wanting to reign on your parade Simon, but it was You who suggested thatI install KaZaA Lite many months ago ::) To prove a point, I uninstalled KaZaA Lite and my firewall then reinstalled the firewall only, it fine until I ran the updates and rebooted now I am back to square one where the firewall is automatically disabled upon switching on or rebooting, so it appears its something to do with the "Updates" any ideas now? :-\

Only because you didn't want to get rid of Kazaa, and Kazaa Lite was the lesser of the two evils!

I had trouble installing Norton on one machine. In the end, I found that installing the Firewall before the AV was causing some sort of problem. I uninstalled them both, and reinstalled the AV first, got all the Live Updates by running it several times, then installed the Firewall, and after another couple of Live Updates, it was OK.

To prove a point, I uninstalled KaZaA Lite and my firewall then reinstalled the firewall only, it was fine until I ran the updates and rebooted now I am back to square one where the firewall is automatically disabled upon switching on or rebooting, so it appears its something to do with the "Updates" any ideas now? :-\

With respect Dave- I know what it is that causes the problems . We all know it is the crap bundled with Kazaa. You stated that using Kazaa and Kazaa Lite left your Anti Virus and Firewall of no use. I simply meant that I have used both Kazaa and Kazaa Lite together with different Anti Virus and Firewalls and they have always either stopped or picked up viruses with no problem. I would never advocate using Kazaa ,(I use Kazaa Lite). I have even downloaded files that I know contained viruses for test purposes through Kazaa Lite, and Norton has picked it up and cleared it every time.
