i think this is a hardware problem. meh, when i start up my pc, where it shows the info about the motherboard and startup, my moniter just says "our of range", and i can't see anything. which means that i have no idea when to select windows as my os, and start it up. :'(
the moniter is perfectly fine in linux, and when i tried it on my dads laptop, but it's just says "out of range" when my pc is starting up. :'(

Try this:

I hope it helps.

According to this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=286331) from MSKB, it could be the refresh rate is set too high. You can alter it by starting in safe mode. All the info you need should be there, Measter. You might have to adapt it to XP, as the article refers to ME, but the principal should be the same.

this is before an os even loads. :-\

Have you tried a different monitor cable?
-
i'm sure the cable is fine, like i said, i tried it with my dads laptop.
-
well, it's perfectly fine in windows. by a very lucky guess, i managed to choose windows as the os to boot.
another ood problem, my mouse keeps cutting out for a second or so. :-\

Wonder if your video card has the right sort of VESA mode selected for the menu page - had one in work that turned to black screen on Windows boot up - switching the monitor off and back on allowed it to then display a picture.
It might be just 'one of those things' that you have to live with - you may want to change the boot options so that windows is the default choice after a few seconds though.
As to the mouse issue - what type of mouse is it (PS2? Serial? USB? Optical? Cordless?)
Typical problems:
1. PS2/USB - problem with interrupts on mouse port conflicting with graphics/sound card
2. Cordless - interference from phones, lights, computer etc.

i'v had this card for ages and it's been perfectly fine, it also only started an hour or so before i posted. i'd also been on the pc a few hours before that and it was fine.
as for the mouse, i think it was a loose cable, i pulled my pc out a bit to get at the moniter cable and that must have pulled out the mouse cable a bit.
