Hi biff_af and :welcome:

Have you disabled whichever anti virus program that you are running when trying to install adaware ?
Hav eyou tried going into Control Panel then Add/Remove and trying to uninstall IE ?
It wont let you but will give you an option to repair it :doggie:

When you said you tried reinstalling 98, was that a clean install or just over the top  ???

I dont know if this will help at all, you didnt say that you get this message but it may still apply :

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;188592&Product=w98 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;188592&Product=w98)

Has your friend got too much stuff on that he doesnt want to lose by formatting and doing a clean install ?
That may be the easiest and quickest way in the end  :(

I've been wondering if the clean install wouldn't be the best thing anyway.. Thanks for all your help, I thought maybe there was something simple I missed. :D
