Title: Connection Speed

I have DSL and I was wondering about this speed thing...

How come in my internet status window it says that it's speed is 100mbps, but if I go to one of those sites that tests your internet connection speed it says it's 130kbps?

The 100mbps refers to the network speed on your LAN, the 130kbps is your connection speed to your WAN (or ISP).
Was someone using a second PC while you ran that test as its a low connection speed unless your not on 512 ADSL  ???

The other computer we have isn't connected to the internet...so I don't think there are other computers using the connection.

How would I be able to find out if we have a "512 ADSL" or not?

Try the speed test on ADSL Guide (link below) which will tell you your DSL speed pretty accurately.

Sorry...I didn't see this reply earlier. The computer I used to use was with Sympatico (I think....) and I'm not sure about the price.

Guess that's not much help, but meh. I'm on a diff connection now (at college) with my 1.8mbps! Oh yea! :lol:

Just tried the speed test..

464.2 kilobits per second

Communications 464.2 kilobits per second
Storage 56.7 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 18.1 seconds
Subjective rating Not bad


How does that compare with others with a typical 512k
