You can gain some seconds while waiting the Internet page to open, when there are animated images on the page..
Go to ?Option Internet? in the ?Control Panel?, and take the option ?Advance?. Then, in the section ?Multimedia? you can untick: ?Play the animations?. Still you need to click ?OK?.
The result will be showing only the first image of the animation.

You would miss out on all the sigs on Pals if you did that :o

Thank you Youdi..you a gem ;D have been looking for ways to do that for ages ;)
-
Ironic you've found that, just as you're about to get Broadband, Hook! :P ;) ;D ;D
-
Jumping at the chance to miss out on all the sigs, I followed Joudi's instructions with glee. Sadly, it makes no difference. :'(

You might be right Clive. I didn't try it myself yet. I have to leave soon now. Well, I revised that point on the other site, and found that they're talking about "Internet Explorer 5".
Well, thought, logically, it must work for "Explorer 6" too. We need the confirmation from others about that then. :)
-
I use IE6, Joudi, and it didn't work for me. :(
-
It didn't work for me neither.
In fact, although I unticked that option of animated images, the images continued to play.
Well, in that case we need the help of a techie to tell us about the function of that option when it's ticked or not.
-
Shall we have a new section? "Tips, Tricks and Tweaks that don't work!" ;D ;D
Sorry Joudi, couldn't resist. ;)
-
:) Ok Simon, but that's an option which is there in internet explorer for something. Why when I tick it or untick it it doesn't make any difference? It must have a function. What is its' function?
That's my wondering for. :-\
-
Sorry to make a joke of it, Joudi. ;)
I wonder if it's because the sigs on here are Flash animations? Maybe you have to uninstall Flash Player, in order to be free of the sigs? :-\
-
In fact, although I unticked that option of animated images, the images continued to play.
I think that you will find that if its unticked it wont play animated gifs, they will only show the first frame and appear as static ones Joudi.
As Simon says, the sigs are flash animations so fortunately it wont stop those :)
-
Then, have you tried that method on a site with animations like that Sandra? Does it work as Tip?
-
Sorry Joudi , I havent had time to try but ZA has a similar setting that stops animated gifs but not flash ones :)
-
Except for the times I have been drunk enough to risk Windows Updates, I haven't used Internet Explorer for years.
Nevertheless, from what I can remember, the Google Toolbar has an option to stop Flash animations, or at least the very first Google toolbar had such an option.

OR
You could try this freeware program.
